Gunmen Abduct Two Chinese Nationals on Kwara Road Construction Site
Gunmen have abducted two Chinese nationals working on an ongoing road project in Kwara State, heightening growing concerns over the worsening security situation in the North-Central region of Nigeria.
Akahi News gathered that the expatriates were part of a construction crew handling the BUA Bode Saadu–Kaiama–Kosubosu road project when masked assailants stormed the site in Ejidongari, Moro Local Government Area, on Monday.

According to eyewitness accounts obtained by Akahi News, the attackers arrived at the construction site in a violent manner, firing sporadically into the air to create panic and confusion among workers before seizing the two foreign nationals and fleeing the scene.
Police Confirm Abduction of Chinese Expatriates
Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, stated that the victims were indeed taken from the construction site while working for BUA Group.
“It is true that they were abducted from the construction site; they are working with BUA. That’s all for now,” the police chief said.
Akahi News learnt that security operatives have since commenced preliminary investigations and are intensifying efforts to track down the kidnappers, rescue the victims, and dismantle criminal networks operating around vulnerable rural communities and forest corridors in the state.
Rising Wave of Insecurity in Kwara State
This abduction is coming at a time when Kwara State has witnessed a disturbing rise in cases of kidnapping, banditry and armed attacks, particularly in border communities and remote locations.
The latest development follows an attack that occurred on November 18 at a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly invaded the worship centre and abducted 38 church members during a service.
Although all the victims from the Eruku incident were eventually released, the attack sent shockwaves across the state and further exposed the vulnerability of rural communities.
In response to the growing threats, the Presidency reportedly ordered a full security lockdown of forested areas in Kwara State on November 25.
Federal Government Orders Security Clampdown
Akahi News gathered that the directive included intense aerial surveillance by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as well as increased deployment of military and paramilitary personnel on the ground to flush out armed groups hiding in the forests.
The move was designed to prevent further attacks, dismantle criminal hideouts and restore public confidence.
However, Monday’s abduction appears to be a direct challenge to those security measures, raising fresh questions about intelligence gathering, response time and operational effectiveness within the region.
Growing Concerns from Residents and Contractors
Residents of Moro LGA and neighbouring communities have expressed renewed fear, calling on security agencies to establish permanent outposts around project sites and highways.
Construction workers, especially those employed by multinational companies such as BUA, are now said to be operating in an atmosphere of anxiety and uncertainty.
Akahi News gathered that several projects in remote areas across Kwara and surrounding states may be reviewed or temporarily suspended if adequate security cannot be guaranteed.
What Happens Next?
As the search for the abducted Chinese nationals continues, Nigerians and the international community keenly await swift and decisive action from law enforcement agencies.
Akahi News will continue to follow developments closely and provide verified, timely updates as the situation unfolds.
