Hoodlums Attack ADC, SDP Members at Transition Meeting in Kaduna Under El-Rufai’s Watch

Scores of members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) were reportedly attacked by hoodlums during a transition meeting in Kaduna on Saturday.
The meeting, which took place at the Conference Hall of NUT Endwell in Mogadishu Layout, was allegedly convened under the leadership of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
Viral Footage Shows Injuries, Damaged Vehicles
Akahi News gathered that viral videos and images from the scene showed several participants with injuries, while windscreens of vehicles parked outside the venue were badly shattered. Eyewitnesses described the incident as chaotic, with participants scampering for safety.
Efforts by journalists to reach Mr El-Rufai for comments proved unsuccessful, as his mobile line was switched off as of press time.
Police React, Blame Organisers for Ignoring Warnings
In a swift response, the Kaduna State Police Command issued a statement distancing itself from the meeting. According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, the organisers failed to notify the police about the gathering despite repeated warnings.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the gathering led to a clash, during which thugs and political gangsters attached to the former governor allegedly fired gunshots, causing chaos and disruption of public order and peace in the state,” the statement read.
Investigation Launched, Police Warn of Consequences
DSP Hassan stressed that the command had launched a full-scale investigation into the incident. He warned that nobody, regardless of political standing, would be spared if found culpable.
“The command wishes to state categorically that the investigation is ongoing, and anyone found culpable, irrespective of his personality and no matter how highly placed, if he acted contrary to the law, will face the full weight of the law,” he said.
The incident has stirred concerns among political observers in Kaduna, with many calling for restraint and accountability to prevent a repeat of politically motivated violence in the state.
