Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has appealed to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to assist in resolving the Federal Government’s freeze on his bank accounts.

The appeal was made during a visit to Oba Ladoja’s Bodija residence in Ibadan on Monday, where the two leaders held a 40-minute discussion. According to a statement released by Igboho’s media team on Wednesday, the conversation focused on security challenges in the South-West, banditry in parts of Kwara State, and lingering legal issues between Igboho and federal authorities.

“The Olubadan assured me of his intervention concerning my designation as a wanted person and the restrictions placed on my accounts,” the statement partially read.

During the meeting, Igboho also congratulated Oba Ladoja on his ascension to the throne, describing him as a respected leader admired across Ibadan and wider Yorubaland. He expressed readiness to cooperate with the Federal Government in enhancing security in the region.

“Oba Ladoja has been a father figure to me since his tenure as governor. His reign will undoubtedly foster peace, unity, and development across Ibadanland and Yorubaland,” Igboho remarked.

Observers recalled the violent 2021 raid on Igboho’s Soka residence in Ibadan by the Department of State Services, supported by soldiers, during which two of his aides were killed and thirteen others arrested over alleged arms stockpiling. This incident continues to underpin Igboho’s ongoing conflicts with federal authorities.

Experts believe Igboho’s move to engage traditional rulers is a strategic attempt to resolve longstanding federal disputes while promoting dialogue for regional stability. Analysts also note the potential influence of traditional rulers in mediating sensitive political and security matters in Nigeria.

Akahi News will continue to monitor developments and provide updates on Igboho’s interactions with the Olubadan and any official responses from the Federal Government.
