I’m Scared to Return to PPA, Says Corper, Asks NYSC for Relocation • Anambra Must Compensate My Daughter – Father

Fear and uncertainty have gripped corps members serving in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, following a violent attack by masked vigilantes who stormed their lodge and subjected them to brutal assaults.

Corps Members Recount Ordeal

According to accounts gathered by Akahi News, the corps members were going about their normal evening routine on Wednesday when about eight armed, masked men forcefully broke into their lodge. Phones and laptops were charging, while others were marking scripts or preparing food, when the sudden bang on the door sent shockwaves across the room.

The intruders, wielding iron rods and guns, allegedly accused the corps members of crimes they knew nothing about. In the chaos that followed, the youths were dragged out, beaten severely, and threatened with death.

One of the corps members, still traumatised, told journalists:

“I’m scared to return to my Primary Place of Assignment (PPA). I don’t feel safe here anymore. I have begged NYSC to consider my relocation. What happened that night keeps replaying in my head.”

Parents Demand Justice

The father of one of the victims has also called on the Anambra State Government to take responsibility and compensate his daughter, stressing that the safety of corps members should never be compromised under any circumstance.

“Our children leave home to serve the country, not to be brutalised. The government must act immediately and ensure such horror never happens again,” he said.

Unanswered Questions

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, with many wondering how vigilantes tasked with securing communities could turn against innocent corps members. Residents of the area have expressed shock at the incident, urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, the NYSC is yet to issue an official statement on whether relocation requests from the affected corps members will be granted.

As tension lingers, many fear that the unsettling experience could discourage young Nigerians from serving in certain parts of the country, unless urgent measures are taken to safeguard their lives.
