Imo Police Launch Massive Operation After Deadly Attack, Kidnap of Motorists in Ngor-Okpala
The Imo State Police Command has begun a coordinated, large-scale operation in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to track down gunmen who attacked motorists and abducted passengers in the Amala Autonomous Community of Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area on Sunday, 7 December 2025.

Gunmen Ambush Motorists, Kill Driver, Abduct Passengers
According to details gathered by Akahi News, the incident occurred at about 5:50 p.m. when armed men reportedly emerged from a bush path at Amala and opened fire on the driver of a Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number SMK 514 BD.
The attackers then proceeded to abduct the occupants of a Lexus RS300 marked FSD 334 XA, dragging them into the forest.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Henry Okoye, said officers from the Ngor-Okpala Division moved swiftly to the scene immediately the report came in.
Police Confirm Death of Injured Driver
SP Okoye disclosed that the victim who was shot during the ambush was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
His words:
“On receiving the information, officers from Ngor-Okpala Division swiftly mobilised to the scene, secured the area, and evacuated the victim to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.”
Massive Search-and-Rescue Operation Underway
In response to the attack, the command has activated a coordinated joint operation involving police tactical teams, the military, local vigilante groups, and other security units.
Akahi News learnt that bush-combing, search-and-rescue missions, and suspect-tracking operations have commenced within the Amala forest axis and the neighbouring communities.
According to SP Okoye:
“Joint security operatives have commenced bush-combing, search-and-rescue, and suspect-tracking within the Amala forest axis and surrounding communities. Investigations have commenced with promising progress made toward apprehending those responsible.”
Assurance of Safety and Call for Public Cooperation
The Imo State Police Command has urged residents to remain calm, assuring the public that every necessary resource is being deployed to rescue the kidnapped victims and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
