The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved the admission of 85 underage candidates — those who will be below 16 years by September 2025 — after what it described as a rigorous and transparent screening process conducted under its exceptional admission policy.
Thorough Evaluation Before Approval
In a statement issued by its Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB confirmed that the 85 successful candidates were carefully evaluated and found qualified to proceed to their chosen institutions. Each of them has been duly notified to finalise their admission and print their official JAMB admission letters.
Akahi News gathered that the exceptional admission policy was introduced to handle rare cases of highly gifted underage students, in line with global best practices where such exceptions are treated with caution and merit.
Over 2 Million Applicants, 41,000 Underage Requests
Out of the 2,031,133 candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), 41,027 applied for special consideration under the underage category. Among them, 599 candidates who scored at least 80 percent in the UTME were shortlisted for a detailed review process that included certificate verification and post-UTME performance checks.
Following this evaluation, 182 candidates were invited for final interviews and documentation. From that number, 85 were eventually cleared and granted full admission approval after satisfying all conditions set by the Board.
Chance for Missed Interviews and O-Level Upload
JAMB also announced that any of the 182 finalists who missed the final interview for genuine reasons should submit a formal complaint via the JAMB Support Ticketing System under the category “2025 Underage Complaint.” Such cases, Akahi News learnt, will be handled individually and strictly on merit.
Furthermore, the Board has extended a two-day grace period — ending Wednesday, 29th October 2025 — for candidates who scored 320 and above in the UTME but were disqualified for failing to upload their O-Level results. These candidates have been advised to complete the upload and notify JAMB through the same support platform.

The Board reaffirmed that it will continue to uphold the standards of tertiary education while ensuring every qualified candidate gets a fair opportunity.
