Jarga Kebba Gigo Speaks: Lessons from Jimmy Kimmel’s Firing and the Growing Threat to Free Speech

By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News

Free speech is a principle many leaders, companies, and governments loudly proclaim to protect. Yet, according to activist and author Jarga Kebba Gigo, the reality has long been different — especially in the United States. His latest commentary, titled “Lessons Around Kimmel’s Firing or Worse?” explores how the suspension of TV host Jimmy Kimmel reveals deeper flaws in America’s democracy, the role of Capitalism in suppressing dissent, and the dangers of government influence over private institutions.

Censorship in America: A Long History

Jarga Kebba Gigo argues that censorship in the United States did not begin under former President Donald Trump, contrary to popular belief. While previous administrations may have kept their actions less visible, Trump’s approach was far bolder and more open.

“People claim censorship is coming to America. No, it was already here,” he notes, adding that under Trump, the situation worsened.

For Gigo, the founding fathers of the United States were brilliant in creating democratic structures but failed to foresee how fear, greed, and arrogance would undermine freedom centuries later. Instead of blaming the past, he calls on society to learn from these loopholes and fix them before free speech collapses completely.

Why Jimmy Kimmel Became a Target

Jimmy Kimmel, the popular late-night TV host, repeatedly challenged Trump’s falsehoods with sharp humour and facts, often ridiculing him in ways that resonated with millions. Gigo believes this made a clash inevitable.

Trump, according to Gigo, long desired Kimmel’s removal. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) leader then seized the moment to indirectly punish the comedian through an “indefinite suspension” — a move Gigo describes as either firing or something even worse.

He argues that ABC, Nexstar, and other corporations involved acted out of “fear and greed,” worried about government threats to block their billion-dollar merger deals if they refused to comply.

“Capitalism sees work as a privilege, not a right,” Gigo laments, noting that powerful companies often bow to political pressure to protect profits at the expense of justice and free speech.

Free Speech vs. Hate Speech: A Risk Worth Taking

One of Gigo’s strongest points concerns the ongoing debate about “hate speech.” He criticises both Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for their contradictory stances — Clinton wanting social media controls, Trump promising free speech but acting against it.

Gigo warns that giving politicians the power to define and police hate speech is dangerous. “Allowing hate speech is a necessary gamble,” he says, arguing that the truth must be free to challenge lies, cruelty, and arrogance.

Instead of censorship, Gigo proposes reforms such as:

  • Independent checks on government power before any company or individual faces punishment for speech.
  • Legislative and judicial oversight to prevent executives from weaponising agencies like the FCC.
  • Laws prohibiting government officials from secretly pressuring private companies to silence critics.

Capitalism and the Illusion of Freedom

The activist repeatedly blames modern Capitalism for enabling censorship through economic threats. Companies, he says, prioritise profits over people, bowing to political leaders when their wealth is at stake.

Indefinite suspension, Gigo explains, leaves victims like Kimmel in limbo — unable to move forward, pay employees, or freely speak. Whether intentional or not, it sends a chilling message: criticise the powerful, and your livelihood may vanish overnight.

He recalls how during the Obama and Biden years, journalists like Mehdi Hassan and others were quietly sidelined. Based on personal experiences in Canada, Gigo claims governments often use hidden tactics to intimidate activists — from job denials to surveillance — making it difficult for ordinary citizens to fight back.

How to Resist Fear and Protect Freedom

Despite the dangers, Gigo insists resistance is necessary. He offers three key lessons for activists, journalists, and citizens:

  1. Avoid wrongdoing: Moral integrity provides the strongest shield against unjust attacks.
  2. Educate others: Awareness can prevent fear from silencing entire communities.
  3. Stand boldly: Like Trump fighting in court or Kimmel confronting lies, individuals must refuse to surrender to threats.

He also calls on fans of independent voices to support them financially. If journalists and entertainers lose platforms due to censorship, public donations can keep their work alive.

A Call for Change — and for Faith

Ultimately, Gigo argues that Capitalism itself must be replaced by what he calls “Lovism” — a system built on compassion, justice, and collective responsibility rather than greed.

Quoting spiritual principles, he urges people to pray for courage, curse those who attack innocent freedoms, and believe that divine justice will eventually prevail.

“Governments are defeatable,” he writes. “Respect them where necessary, resist them where necessary, and never let fear kill your truth.”

For Gigo, the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel is not just about one man losing his platform. It symbolises a wider global struggle between power, greed, and the fundamental right to speak freely.

Jarga Kebba Gigo’s Write-up Below:

Lessons Around Kimmel’s Firing or Worse?

Free speech is often professed by individuals, companies,  and administrations , I have overwhelming evidence of big companies and every u.s. administration since President Obama was guilty of censorship of some type. Of course, pre-Obama administrations may very well be guilty of censorship, but personal knowledge,  time , and space come with limitations. However, Trump takes censorship to new levels and in the open, which is why people wrongly claim ‘censorship is coming to America’. No! Censorship was already in the U.S.,  so censorship is rising or getting worse in the u.s is more accurate. Yes, I understand many countries may be worse than the u.s , but we are discussing the u.s for valid reasons. The so-called founding fathers of the u.s were exceptionally bright on one side, but were also in deep illusions in some aspects.  The baton is passed, so blaming them is useless, but asking how we can improve the loopholes is ever relevant.

Many things in life require team work for success, so someone or many people dropped the ball, not just guilty Trump . The amazing story of Adam and Eve (Awa) near-explicitly taught us fear, greed, and arrogance are the roots of evil; so the explicit branches of evil are ignorance, lying, and cruelty. So when Jimmy Kimmel conquers fear and repeatedly confronts arrogant Trump, a fight was almost inevitable. The killing of Charlie Kirk led to Trump lying, which many confronted, but Jimmy Kimmel arguably confronted the lies with the most brutal facts and with style. Kimmel confronted the ‘Maga world’ with Trump’s words, so it certainly affected the emotions of the thin-skinned Trump supporters.

Trump has long seeded his desire to have Jimmy Kimmel fired. So the leader of the FCC apparently sees this moment as an opportunity to indirectly fire Kimmel to satisfy Trump. He did not even use a phone call, but a video with a vivid lie and what amounts to a threat. Since Capitalism approves every level of greed and the involved companies of ABC, Nexstar, and others are multi-billion dollar companies trying to get bigger through a merger that needs government approval,  they committed the sins of fear and greed in near explicit ways. They arrogantly fire Kimmel because Capitalism does not see work as a right like Lovism, but rather see work as a one way responsibility or privilege that can be withdrawn with every flimsy excuse.

Loopholes: There are clearly loopholes in how we protect free speech, but even Free speech is sadly misunderstood by countless folks, including top u.s politicians. Ms. Clinton was the first major opponent of Trump and she is deeply flawed even with words about free speech. Ms. Clinton sadly argued for censorship of ‘hateful words’ by claiming ‘people do get hurt’. Trump will at least promise free-speech, but his actions clearly disregard free-speech. Even after her defeat, Ms. Clinton in 2024 was caught on the record, saying or wanting ‘ to have full control of social media’. These under-condemned crazy wordings and even VP  candidate Tim Walz justifying the need to police hate speech cost the Democrats lots of votes. My point is the founding fathers clearly understood it would be too dangerous to allow folks like Trump or Ms. Clinton define what is hate speech. Ms. Clinton may claim she knows hate speech and will not censor like Trump, but she may at least admit it will be terrible to have Trump and countless republicans to define hate speech and be given power to police the citizens on words.

So allowing hate-speech is a needed gamble or sacrifice, banking on truth to eliminate or minimise the lies, illusions, or cruel words. The founding fathers also protected the private citizens only from direct government punishment over speech, but how do we protect people from indirect government punishment? Partly through education that may be ignored but we can also consider new regulations like multiple authority for approvals. For example, we can create a process of both judicial and legislative appeals where if a person or company is denied opportunity by the executive. Of course, I am referring to a special judicial process, not the regular courts. Also requiring 50% of the legislative branch approval for merger as an example is likely harder than dealing with the FCC or an executive’s sub-branch. Such may help greedy companies grow balls and resist a government that openly threatens like Satan was given respite to use. We can also create laws that forbid government employees from demanding actions from private companies over words.

Options: Kimmel does have the option of starting his own private podcast and still drives Trump crazy. The fact remains paying the team of writers is likely a burden that we the tens of millions of fans must help on. As said in the beginning, it takes a team, because even a great deliverer or orator like Kimmel has multiple levels of teams. There is evidence that at least five writers do help him to deliver the about 15 to 25 minutes of nightly monologues+ that captivate many of us, from different countries. Many of us are good at ‘let us boycott a company’, but better is how can we help ‘victims’ by sacrificing for those who serve us? Those of us working must be donating for those not working to keep private media thriving.  I did unsubscribe from the ABC channel as a tiny protest, but I may not stop viewing ABC or boycott the companies that may advertise with them. The sad reality is if you and I were given working opportunities at guilty ABC, Nexstar, etc we may likely take it in hard Capitalism.

It was during the Biden era when Mehdi Hassan and many people were pushed aside over speech. Some of you may argue the government had no hand in such, but you may be very naive in what goes behind closed doors.  I honestly believe we need an institution that will protect private citizens’ free speech from guilty companies. I have indeed experienced job denials in Canada that I am 99% sure was under the directive of the Obama administration. The government just happens to be a nasty beast that is extremely hard to take on. Western governments will give millions of people free-speech rights, but will target hundreds to thousands of people because they happen to have facts or clearer explanations they deem dangerous or shameful to their image. It is not only jobs or business, the government did even interfere in my potential sexual relationships during the Obama era. They can monitor your phone even when turned off, once they target you. This was later confirmed by Snowden. So calling potential employers or new potential partners can easily scare folks even without identifying as a government.  Once the government accuses you, many will assume you are guilty until you can prove otherwise, where you may never be given the opportunity. The reason I am narrating such is to help young activists understand the ‘dangers’ of activism and to be more prepared and more cautious after any conflict with the government.

Once you are already well-known, it is slightly harder for the government to tackle you down, but they may certainly try. Your best bet is to hang-on to God and avoid wrongs. You should also warn your friends and families, but frankly the media should be educating the public about the importance and dangers of confronting governments do extend to those you may be in contact with.

Although it may seem harder to control social media, that is only true in limited aspects. Governments are essentially like d[oers of]evils on limited respite. Respecting them where need be and resisting or even confronting them where need be is a danger that folks like me have chosen. First, they are defeatable devils like every devil is defeatable. Secondly, you can be fully protected, but you must avoid wrongs a lot more than the ordinary.  Thirdly, if you fall short or they arrogantly try you, resist fearlessly like or more than Trump did in court. After all, we are here for probably under a hundred years, so bravely live your life. I am not without challenges, but I do not regret any of my challenges to guilty individuals, guilty companies (groups),  or guilty governments . The world is bigger than money and I am still hopeful that God can help me beyond the amazing happiness I enjoy. I have also mysteriously evolved to no longer needing women or sex, but just as a want…

The deceptive nature of Capitalism extends to how they use ‘indefinite suspension’ of kimmel. There is a difference between suspension and firing, but indefinite suspension is firing  or worse than firing. Imagine if Kimmel was on a contract and have to pay his team, then firing will him decide, but indefinite suspension means he may have to keep paying his employees until when? They want to fire him but afraid, or just want to have him hanging with worries? Even if it is suspension with pay, they are denying the public what amounts to censorship.

History will confirm Kimmel attacked Trump’s lies, not questionable Charlie Kirk, who bowed to Trump and still died before us. History will confirm Mr. Carr of the FCC lied in his accusations and threatening call for fire. History will also confirm it has nothing to do with ratings as Trump lied. So how many may tone down for money or resist to the end? Kimmel is a millionaire and probably for life. Like Steven Colbert is smiling his way out, I am fairly certain that Kimmel will smile again. Public stress may or may not go higher, but I doubt if Trump will survive long in office or the earth. Some will argue the over three years left may feel like a decade or that Trump will try a third term or until death calls him. I will argue to try to learn from every lesson or event, and focus on trying to do no wrong. Do not wish bad to even Trump, except through group imprecations. Curse anyone who tries to harm us or try to take away our God given rights is legitimate, part of ‘exhort each other to truth ‘ as per ch. 103. Curse them by any means necessary is a humble admission that God has agents much stronger than the UFOs Trump fears. Avoid resisting Trump or anyone where they are right through conscience,  not mere man made laws. Again, the democrats are partly to blame, they offended a harmless and beneficial person like me and refuse to sincerely repent. Who can say the Republicans are not cohorts, but blame only Trump for expanding the abuses? Who can ignore how companies bow from firing to settling greedy and outrageous lawsuits? Capitalism should die, and Lovism takes over, if God truly loves us, because it kills and suffers too many people. Empower us to challenge them beyond words, facilitate the partnership for unstoppable quick take over, and/or use your invisible forces to subdue the guilty and forgive those trying to repent. When a billionaire or multi-billion dollar company says I need to fire  a hard working innocent person to earn more billions through super capitalist Trump, then only the blind will dispute it has nothing to do with Capitalism.  It was written or is vividly displayed now: the arrogant liar will appeal to the fears and greed of humans. A child born under Capitalism or any major wrong will require lots of re-teaching by humans, but your mercy can simplify what seems difficult.  May God bless us a lot more through Showlove Trinity: let’s learn, let’s work, let’s have fun.
