The operation, which spanned multiple local government areas, was described as one of the most comprehensive crackdowns in recent years. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the arrests during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Dutse on Tuesday, reaffirming the state’s resolve to stamp out the illicit drug trade.

Police Sweep Through Hotspots Across Jigawa

According to SP Adam, law enforcement officers “searched every nook and cranny of the state” to identify and apprehend those involved in illegal drug distribution. “Our men left no stone unturned,” he said, stressing that the raids were part of ongoing efforts to safeguard communities from the rising wave of drug-related crimes.

He further revealed that over 5,000 pieces of illicit substances were recovered, including cannabis, narcotics, and other intoxicating materials. The arrests and seizures were made through coordinated intelligence-led operations carried out simultaneously across major towns and villages.

Breakdown of Seized Items

The police spokesperson provided a detailed breakdown of the confiscated drugs, which included 2,541 units of Exol and 1,146 units of D5 — substances commonly abused among youths in northern Nigeria. Authorities also recovered several wraps of Indian hemp and other psychotropic substances during the raids.

SP Adam noted that the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of the necessary legal procedures.

Renewed Commitment to Drug-Free Jigawa

Observers have lauded the command’s decisive action, describing it as a strong message to those fueling addiction and insecurity in the region. The police assured residents that similar operations will continue until the state is completely free of drug trafficking syndicates.

SP Adam urged the public to support the police by providing credible information on suspicious drug-related activities, saying community cooperation is vital to sustaining the progress achieved so far.

As the fight against drug abuse intensifies nationwide, Jigawa’s latest operation underscores the growing synergy between intelligence gathering, public cooperation, and proactive policing — a model other states are encouraged to emulate.
