Joseph Lifu Issues Rejoinder Over Alleged Political Discord in Yala LGA
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
A fresh twist has emerged in the ongoing political debate in Yala Local Government Area (LGA) following a rejoinder issued by Joseph Lifu, a concerned party member from Yala 1 State Constituency.

This development comes after an earlier statement credited to the Office of the Special Assistant on Youths and Sports, Comr. Solomon Ada, which alleged that a political leader from Yala 1 was attempting to destabilise the chairmanship arrangement currently occupied by Hon. Elder Dr. Fred Okem.
In his rejoinder made available online, Lifu emphasised that leadership should be rooted in performance and accountability rather than ethnic or zonal sentiments. He stressed that while the zoning arrangement between Yala 1 and Yala 2 promotes equity and fairness, it should not shield any leader from public scrutiny or legitimate criticism.
Key Highlights from Lifu’s Rejoinder
- Performance over entitlement
Lifu insisted that governance must remain people-centred, noting that the chairmanship position should not be treated as a hereditary right immune to constructive criticism. - Call for evidence and fairness
He criticised what he described as vague and sweeping accusations against unnamed leaders from Yala 1, arguing that such claims risked deepening division rather than resolving it. - Unity between Yala 1 and Yala 2
Lifu rejected any narrative pitting Ukelle (Yala 2) against Yala 1, stressing that both zones share a long history of cooperation and must remain partners in progress. - Avoid weaponising past grievances
He cautioned against using the previous paramount ruler controversy to justify current political agitation, urging leaders to focus on present challenges and development priorities. - Respect for APC structures
Lifu reminded party members that the All Progressives Congress (APC) provides internal mechanisms for resolving disputes, warning that inflammatory public statements risk undermining party cohesion ahead of future elections.
Appeal for Maturity and Dialogue
Lifu urged Comr. Solomon Ada and other young political leaders to embrace maturity, restraint, and dialogue rather than escalating tensions. He reiterated his commitment to peace, unity, and equitable development across all parts of Yala LGA.
This rejoinder marks a significant development in the unfolding political situation, as stakeholders await the official position of the APC leadership and state government on the matter.
