Kemi Badenoch Confronts Racist Abuse Amid Tory Leadership Challenges
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, has revealed the scale of racist abuse she has endured since becoming the first black woman to head the party, describing the hostility as both surprising and deeply personal.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Badenoch said she had not anticipated the intensity of the attacks, despite her previous assertion that Britain was “the best place in the world to be black.”
“There’s a certain cadre of people who clearly can’t cope with the fact that I won this and I’m doing it,” she explained. “The level of personal attacks from anonymous people, it’s hysterical … People used to talk about Trump derangement syndrome. I think there’s a Kemi derangement syndrome: ‘How could she possibly have done this?’”
The Tory leader, who was born in Wimbledon and raised in Nigeria before returning to the UK at 16, added that much of the hostility online revolves around her race, ethnicity, and conspiracy-laden tropes questioning her legitimacy.
Badenoch, known for her criticism of anti-racism campaigners and critical race theory, stressed that she tries to avoid framing every challenge through the lens of race. “Ethnic minorities do very well here,” she argued, pointing instead to white working-class boys as the demographic struggling most on key metrics.
As she prepares for her first party conference speech, Badenoch faces mounting pressure, with the Conservatives polling at just 17% and speculation about a possible leadership challenge from shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick.
On suggestions Jenrick might soon replace her, Badenoch dismissed the rumours as “wishful thinking.” She accused her detractors of being “sore losers” more focused on political games than the lives of ordinary Britons.
Her remarks underscore both the personal and political hurdles she must navigate as she seeks to solidify her leadership and reposition the party ahead of the next general election.
