Kwankwaso Declares He Has No “Price Tag” in Nigerian Politics

Former Governor of Kano State and national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he cannot be bought, insisting that he has no “price tag” in Nigerian politics.

Speaking on recent political developments in Kano State, Kwankwaso said that while politics naturally comes with wins and losses, acts of betrayal often attract public resentment, especially at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with insecurity and economic hardship. Akahi News gathered that his comments were directed at both political actors and voters amid shifting political alignments in the state.

The former governor emphasised that the Kano electorate is politically conscious and not easily swayed by inducements, arguing that money politics does not thrive easily in the state.

“Kano politics is different. Where else in Nigeria would someone come to you with a bag of money expecting you to agree to their terms?” Kwankwaso asked.

According to him, the political culture in Kano is shaped by awareness and long-standing engagement, making it difficult for politicians to compromise principles for financial gain. Akahi News learnt that Kwankwaso has often highlighted grassroots political education as a defining feature of his movement.

“No One Can Buy My Conscience”

Rejecting the notion that all Nigerian politicians have a price, Kwankwaso insisted that his values are not for sale.

“People often say that everyone in Nigerian politics has a price. If you want someone who cannot be bought, come to Rabiu Kwankwaso,” he said.

He stressed that no amount of money could purchase his conscience, adding that leadership without integrity ultimately fails to deliver meaningful progress for the people. Akahi News gathered that the statement resonated strongly with supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which prides itself on ideological loyalty.

Warning Against Short-Term Electoral Inducements

Kwankwaso also cautioned politicians and voters against the culture of short-term inducements during elections, describing it as a cycle that perpetuates poor governance.

“You endure hardship for four years, and then someone comes offering peanuts for a single day. And the cycle continues for another four years,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to prioritise long-term development over temporary benefits, warning that leadership built on inducements and betrayal cannot deliver sustainable growth or stability.

Political Context in Kano

According to LEADERSHIP, Kwankwaso’s remarks come against the backdrop of reported moves by his protégé and current Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akahi News gathered that the reported development has heightened political tension in Kano, given Kwankwaso’s central role in the emergence of the NNPP as a major political force in the state.

Call for Principled Leadership

In his concluding remarks, Kwankwaso urged political actors to uphold principles and place the long-term interests of the people above personal ambition.

He maintained that true leadership must be anchored on conviction, loyalty, and service, warning that politics driven by inducement and betrayal only deepens public frustration.

As political realignments continue ahead of future elections, Akahi News will continue to monitor developments in Kano State and the wider implications for Nigeria’s political landscape.
