In a significant stride toward enhancing the quality of basic education, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Thursday inaugurated the distribution of instructional materials and sports kits valued at multimillion naira to pupils in primary and junior secondary schools across the state. This landmark initiative underscores the administration’s unwavering commitment to fostering educational development and addressing the challenges of out-of-school children.
The distributed items, meticulously curated to cater to the diverse needs of learners, include 73,365 textbooks covering core subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Computer Studies; 12,780 assorted primary school library books; 100 pieces of specialized educational materials for learners with unique needs; 260 sets of Early Childhood Care and Development Education (ECCDE) plastic chairs and tables; 3,931 sports equipment to promote physical education; 344 sets of agricultural tools to encourage practical learning; and 78 tablets to integrate digital literacy into the curriculum.
Governor AbdulRazaq, represented by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, emphasized that the initiative aligns with his administration’s strategic focus on revitalizing basic education and reducing the number of out-of-school children. “This administration is resolute in its belief that the scourge of out-of-school children will soon be eradicated through sustained investment in education,” he declared. “By providing these essential materials free of charge, we aim to alleviate the financial burden on parents and ensure that every child has access to quality education.”
The governor further highlighted the broader vision of his administration to create an enabling environment for academic excellence and holistic development. “Education is the bedrock of societal progress, and we are committed to equipping our young learners with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive world,” he added.
