Lagos Environmental Officials Arrest Woman for Allegedly Adulterating Yam Flour with Harmful Colouring Agents
In a disturbing revelation that has raised public health concerns, officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps have apprehended a woman for allegedly adulterating yam flour (commonly known as elubo isu) with unsafe colouring agents.

The arrest was announced on Friday, 26th of July, 2025, by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. According to the Commissioner, the suspect was caught in the act of mixing what is meant to be a staple food item with chemical additives considered dangerous for human consumption.
“This act is not only illegal but also poses a serious risk to the health of unsuspecting consumers,” Wahab stated, as he reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to protecting residents from food adulteration and environmental hazards.
The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, has intensified its operations across markets and food-processing centres, targeting those who engage in such unscrupulous practices.
Authorities have warned that the suspect will face full prosecution under relevant public health and food safety laws, serving as a deterrent to others.
Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious food production or sales practices to the appropriate agencies.
This arrest adds to the growing list of regulatory crackdowns aimed at ensuring food safety and safeguarding public health in the state.
