Lagos Police Arrest Four Suspected Cult Members, Recover Locally Made Gun

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four men suspected of cult-related activities in the Lekki, Ajah and Elemoro areas of Lagos State, with a locally made gun reportedly recovered during the investigation.

The arrests, which took place between 2 and 9 October 2026, followed intelligence reports received by police operatives, according to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi.

Police Identify Four Suspects

The police identified the arrested men as Arisekola Ojo, 32; Oluwatobi Oyewole, 29; Oluwaseyi Odunewu, 32; and Olumagba Ifatope, 29.

According to the command, the suspects were apprehended during operations targeting alleged cult-related activities in parts of Lagos.

The arrests form part of the police’s ongoing efforts to tackle cultism and other criminal activities considered threats to public safety in the state.

Locally Made Gun Recovered During Investigation

The police said information obtained during questioning led operatives to search the residence of Oluwaseyi Odunewu, where they reportedly recovered a locally made, cut-to-size firearm.

The command added that the suspects had provided useful statements and that investigations were continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offences.

Police operatives are also working to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be connected to the case, while seeking to recover additional firearms.

The latest development highlights the importance of intelligence gathering and targeted police operations in efforts to prevent violent crime and disrupt suspected criminal networks.

Lagos Police Intensify Campaign Against Cultism

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling cult groups and other criminal networks operating across the state.

He warned individuals involved in cultism and other criminal activities to desist or face the consequences of breaking the law.

The police commissioner also urged residents to provide credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in identifying threats and responding to criminal activities.

Community cooperation, the police maintain, remains an important part of efforts to improve security in neighbourhoods across Lagos.

Public Safety and the Need for Due Process

Cult-related violence remains a security concern in parts of Nigeria, particularly where rival groups are suspected of engaging in violent confrontations, intimidation and other criminal activities.

The arrest of the four suspects provides an opportunity for investigators to establish whether the men were involved in the offences alleged by the police and whether other individuals played a role.

However, an arrest is not the same as a conviction. The suspects are entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty before a court of competent jurisdiction.

A thorough investigation, the proper handling of evidence and adherence to due process will be essential to ensuring that the case produces a lawful and credible outcome.

Residents are encouraged to report credible security concerns to the appropriate authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands.

Investigation Continues

The Lagos State Police Command said investigations were ongoing, with efforts directed at identifying other alleged accomplices and recovering additional firearms.

The outcome of the investigation and any subsequent court proceedings will determine the next steps in the case.

For now, the police operation represents another effort by the command to address suspected cult-related activities and strengthen public safety in the Lekki, Ajah and Elemoro areas.

Akahi News will continue to follow developments in the case as further verified information becomes available.
