Lagos Police Arrest Suspect Over Bomb Threats to Ikeja Schools
The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of one Kosiso Chukwem-Nenyem over alleged bomb threats sent to Avi-Cenna International School and Grange School, both located in the Ikeja Government Reserved Area (GRA).
The arrest was disclosed on Monday, January 26, by the Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

Akahi News gathered that the threats, which triggered panic among parents, school authorities, and residents of the area, led to the temporary suspension of physical activities in both schools as a precautionary measure.
How the Threats Were Reported
According to police reports, at about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, the Human Resources Manager and the Chief Security Officer of the affected schools separately reported to the Ikeja Divisional Police Headquarters that they had received threatening messages via WhatsApp.
The anonymous sender claimed that explosive devices had been planted within the school premises, prompting immediate security concerns.
In response, Avi-Cenna International School informed parents that although preliminary checks suggested the premises were safe, the school would remain closed for the day to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Grange School also shut down physical activities on Thursday, January 22, stating that the decision was taken to prioritise safety while collaborating with security agencies for further investigations.
Akahi News learnt that the closure of the schools disrupted academic activities and heightened anxiety among parents within the Ikeja GRA axis.
Police Deploy EOD, Counter-Terrorism Units
Commissioner Jimoh disclosed that specialised units of the command, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), and other tactical teams, were immediately deployed to both school locations.
He said thorough sweeps were conducted across the premises and surrounding environments, and no Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were discovered.
The schools were subsequently declared safe for occupation.
Jimoh noted that the swift deployment was aimed at preventing any potential threat and restoring public confidence.
Investigation Traces Messages to Suspect
Police investigations reportedly traced the threatening messages to Kosiso Chukwem-Nenyem, a resident of Okota.
During interrogation, the suspect claimed that his mobile phone had been lost since November 2025.
However, investigators established that he continued to receive calls from relatives during the period the bomb threats were issued.
Further checks also led to the recovery of the SIM card linked to the threatening messages in his possession.
Akahi News gathered that digital forensic analysis played a critical role in linking the suspect directly to the messages.
Suspect to Face Prosecution
Commissioner Jimoh stated that preliminary findings showed the suspect acted alone and deliberately attempted to cause fear, panic, and disruption among parents and school administrators.
He assured that the command would prosecute Chukwem-Nenyem to the full extent of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.
Security experts warn that false bomb threats, even when hoaxes, drain public resources and create unnecessary fear, particularly in sensitive locations such as schools.
Akahi News learnt that the police have urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
Public Safety and Community Reassurance
The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents, students, and educational institutions across the state.
Parents and school authorities have been advised to maintain close communication with security agencies and to avoid spreading unverified information capable of escalating panic.
Akahi News gathered that the command will continue to strengthen surveillance and intelligence gathering around critical public facilities.
