Nigeria Police Summons Former Rivers SSG Over Alleged Plot Against FCT Minister Wike
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has summoned Tammy Wenike Danagogo, former Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), for questioning over a leaked phone conversation reportedly linked to a plot to assassinate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Police Invitation
In a letter dated 9 January 2026 and obtained by journalists, the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) instructed Danagogo to appear in person at the IRT complex in Guzape District, Abuja, on Thursday, 15 January, at 10:00 am. The letter, issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Police, directed him to report to CSP Hillary Ugwuanyi and his team upon arrival.
“This office is inviting you over an ongoing investigation, to appear in person to shed light on some information,” the letter read. It further described the summons as a “fact-finding exercise in the interest of justice and fairness,” citing Section 53(2)(c) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
Alleged Plot and Political Context
Danagogo, a close ally of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has been linked in online reports to a leaked audio recording allegedly discussing a plan to eliminate Wike, his long-time political rival. While the police letter did not explicitly mention Wike, sources familiar with the investigation confirmed the connection to the viral audio recording, which has heightened political tensions in Rivers State.
Earlier, Very Nigerian reported that a Port Harcourt–based medical doctor and pastor, Dr. Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, founder of Life Forte Chapel Church, was arrested in connection with the alleged plot. Security sources revealed that the arrest followed the interception of a phone conversation between Dr. Gbeneol and Danagogo, in which the suspects allegedly discussed recruiting Israeli nationals to carry out the assassination and reportedly planned to approach Governor Fubara for funding.
“The content of the call was considered a grave national security threat. That was what triggered the immediate action by the IRT,” a senior security source said.
Current Status
Dr. Gbeneol has been in detention for approximately two weeks, while police investigations continue. Efforts to locate and question Danagogo are ongoing, with sources indicating that he has reportedly gone underground since the matter became public.
The NPF confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the case, stating that investigations are ongoing. Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin said, “He is in our custody. Investigation is ongoing,” without disclosing further details about the suspect or the nature of the alleged plot.
This development adds a new layer of complexity to the political crisis in Rivers State, as authorities seek to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the alleged assassination plot and identify potential accomplices.
