Nigeria Police Suspend Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement Following Court Order

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the suspension of nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, following a court order restraining the Force from implementing the measure.

The announcement was made on Thursday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.

CSP Hundeyin explained that while the NPF had earlier scheduled the resumption of enforcement of the tinted glass regulation from 2nd January 2026, an interim court order has temporarily halted the policy. The order, issued on 17th December 2025 in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, prevents the police from enforcing the policy pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or until the court vacates the order.

In compliance with judicial authority, the police have formally entered appearances in the matter, raised preliminary objections, and applied for the vacation of the interim order. The court has adjourned the case to 20th January 2026 for further proceedings.

Police Assurance to the Public

Akahi News gathered that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reiterated the Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law while continuing its primary mandate of protecting lives and property.

“The Force will continue to deploy lawful, intelligence-driven strategies to address security challenges and safeguard public safety across the country,” the statement noted.

The NPF also assured members of the public that further updates and guidance regarding the tinted glass policy would be communicated following the court’s determination, in the interest of public order and national security.

The suspension of the tinted glass permit checks reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s respect for judicial authority and due process. Observers say the case highlights the balance between enforcing security regulations and upholding citizens’ legal rights, a recurring challenge in Nigeria’s law enforcement landscape.
