By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The Crime Branch of Goa Police has arrested a 42-year-old Nigerian national for alleged possession of cocaine valued at approximately ₹1 lakh during a late-night raid in Mapusa.
According to details obtained by Akahi News, the suspect, identified as Chinedu Amos, also known as Victor Igwe, was apprehended while allegedly carrying a transparent polythene bag containing 10.79 grams of white powder believed to be cocaine. The operation, conducted under a search and seizure panchanama, led to the confiscation of the illicit substance, which has been sent for forensic analysis.

Repeat Offender Under Investigation
Authorities revealed that Amos, who currently resides in Baga, is no stranger to law enforcement, as preliminary investigations indicate that he has been previously involved in two other NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases within Goa.
The Crime Branch has since produced the suspect before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Mapusa, securing a five-day police remand to facilitate further investigation into his alleged drug network and possible accomplices.
Goa’s Ongoing Crackdown on Drug Offences
The arrest forms part of a sustained effort by the Goa Police to curb the rising tide of drug-related activities in the state’s coastal areas, particularly in tourist hotspots like Baga, Calangute, and Anjuna, which have gained notoriety for narcotics circulation.
Speaking on the operation, a Crime Branch officer confirmed that intelligence-led surveillance was key to tracking the accused before the midnight raid. “We are intensifying our anti-drug drive, and anyone caught dealing or possessing illegal substances will face the full weight of the law,” the officer stated.
International Implications and Local Enforcement
Akahi News gathered that this latest arrest underscores concerns over the involvement of foreign nationals in Goa’s narcotics trade. Authorities have vowed to maintain close coordination with immigration services to verify the suspect’s visa status and possible links to cross-border drug syndicates.
As investigations continue, the Goa Police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring public safety and protecting the state’s tourism reputation from the growing menace of drug trafficking.
