Billionaire businessman and nightlife entrepreneur, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, is currently navigating a difficult legal moment following the enforcement of a court-ordered eviction at the Abuja property that once housed the iconic Cubana Lounge in Wuse II.

A video that surfaced online on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, and widely circulated across social media platforms, showed court sheriffs executing an eviction order at Plot 81, Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja. Akahi News gathered that the property has now been formally handed over to businessman Collins Onwuzulike, following a prolonged legal dispute.

Footage from the scene captured individuals removing chairs, sofas, tables, and other valuable items reportedly belonging to Obi Cubana from the premises. The items were seen stacked outside the building, while interior decorations were dismantled as the enforcement progressed.

Observers at the scene said the eviction marked the end of Obi Cubana’s physical presence at the property, which had for years served as one of Abuja’s most popular nightlife destinations. Akahi News learnt that the enforcement followed the expiration of a restraining order that had earlier stalled the process.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the building was officially transferred to its adjudged owner immediately after the execution of the eviction order.

How the Court Case Began

Court documents reviewed by Akahi News indicate that the dispute dates back to July 2025, when the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting in Gwagwalada delivered a judgment affirming Collins Onwuzulike, proprietor of SEMC Investment Ltd., as the legitimate owner of the property.

The court was told that Onwuzulike purchased the building from Reverend Chidiebere Amakaeze for ₦2 billion. The transaction was reportedly supported by a valid Power of Attorney and a Deed of Assignment executed with effect from May 1, 2024.

A partially demolished building with loose metal panels and debris is seen outside, including a large pile of gravel in the foreground.

In its ruling, the court noted that despite completing the purchase and executing all necessary transfer documents, the buyer was unable to take possession of the property due to occupation by other parties.

Court Orders Immediate Vacation, Police Support

Justice J.A. Aina, who presided over the matter, ordered the defendants to immediately vacate the premises. The judge further directed the Inspector General of Police and other relevant security agencies to assist the rightful owner in enforcing possession of the building.

However, enforcement was temporarily stalled after another group claiming interest in the property obtained a restraining order from the FCT High Court sitting in Bwari. Akahi News gathered that the restraining order eventually lapsed, clearing the way for Tuesday’s enforcement.

With the successful execution of the eviction, the keys to the building were formally handed over to Onwuzulike’s legal representative, signalling the conclusion of months of legal contest over the high-value property.

Obi Cubana Reportedly Loses ₦800 Million

Meanwhile, emerging reports suggest that Obi Cubana may have suffered significant financial losses following the court action. According to information obtained by Akahi News, the businessman reportedly lost an estimated ₦800 million invested in the lounge, including renovations, fittings, and operational assets.

Sources also claim that the building itself may be earmarked for demolition, although no official confirmation has been issued by the new owner or relevant authorities as of the time of filing this report.

Analysts note that the development highlights the risks associated with property disputes in Nigeria’s commercial real estate sector, particularly when long-term investments are tied to properties under unresolved ownership claims.

Public Reaction and Industry Implications

The eviction has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing surprise that a high-profile businessman like Obi Cubana could be caught in such a complex legal web. Others have called it a cautionary tale for entrepreneurs to conduct exhaustive due diligence before committing substantial resources to leased or disputed properties.

While Obi Cubana has yet to issue an official public statement on the eviction, Akahi News gathered that the businessman remains focused on his broader hospitality and entertainment investments across Nigeria and beyond.

A Reminder on Property Rights and Due Process

Legal experts say the case underscores the supremacy of court judgments and the importance of respecting property rights, regardless of status or influence. They argue that it also reinforces the need for clear documentation and timely resolution of ownership disputes to protect both investors and property owners.

As developments continue to unfold, Akahi News will keep monitoring the situation and provide updates on any official response from Obi Cubana, further court actions, or decisions regarding the future of the property.
