Obudu People’s Endorsement Shows APC Has Not Disappointed Nigerians – Party Chairman

By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the endorsement of Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, by the people of Obudu Local Government Area is a clear indication that the ruling party has not failed Nigerians since assuming power.

A large crowd gathered at an endorsement rally for the All Progressives Congress in Obudu, Nigeria, showcasing diverse attendees, banners, and visible support for party leaders.

The declaration was made on Friday during a massive endorsement rally held at the open grounds of the Obudu Council Secretariat, where political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and thousands of residents converged to reaffirm their support for the duo.

APC Chairman Hails Endorsement as Proof of Good Governance

Addressing the crowd, the APC Chairman in Cross River State, Alphonsus Eba Esq., described the rally as “a loud statement of confidence” in the leadership of both President Tinubu and Governor Otu.

“This solidarity shows that the APC-led administration has not disappointed Nigerians,” Eba asserted. “The people have spoken: the way forward is continuity. This endorsement tells the whole country that APC’s leadership is delivering on its promises, and the people are satisfied.”

He further praised the residents of Obudu for their turnout, noting that it demonstrated unity, political consciousness, and a desire for development-oriented leadership.

Governor Otu’s Response: ‘A Challenge to Do Even More’

Governor Bassey Otu, who was represented at the rally by his Chief of Staff, Emmanuel Ironbar, welcomed the endorsement as both an honour and a challenge.

“This endorsement is a challenge to do even more,” Ironbar said on behalf of the Governor. “Your support inspires us to deepen our efforts. We will continue to implement policies and projects that reflect our ‘people first’ mantra because governance must positively impact the lives of ordinary citizens.”

A large crowd of supporters gathered at a political endorsement rally in Obudu, with attendees wearing branded caps and shirts, actively showing their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Governor also encouraged residents to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) exercise, stressing that political participation was crucial for sustaining democracy and ensuring representation at all levels.

Council Chairman: Endorsement Based on Performance

Speaking on behalf of the local council, Chairman Peter Undiandeye explained that the decision to mobilise support for the President and Governor was rooted in their achievements.

“This endorsement rally is performance-oriented,” Undiandeye said, pointing out that the Federal Government’s recent claims of declining food prices and other positive economic indicators had started to reflect in communities across Cross River State.

His remarks drew applause from the crowd, as many residents nodded in agreement, citing improved infrastructure and people-focused initiatives as reasons for their support.

‘Not a Political Ritual’ – Commissioner for Sports

Earlier, the Commissioner for Sports, Agnes Atsu, while welcoming dignitaries and participants, stated categorically that the endorsement was “not a political ritual” but a deliberate act of appreciation.

“This endorsement is not about politics as usual. It is a bold and deliberate statement based on visible performance and the life-changing impact of their leadership,” Atsu remarked.

Her comments echoed the sentiments of many present, especially women and youth groups who had turned out in large numbers for the event.

Traditional Rulers, Lawmakers, and Stakeholders Back Endorsement

The endorsement rally also witnessed the participation of traditional rulers, community leaders, and lawmakers representing the area.

Federal lawmaker Peter Akpanke, who represents Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwara Federal Constituency, formally moved the motion for the endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term. The motion was seconded by the Deputy Speaker of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly, Sylvester Agabi.

Similarly, Chief Tony Undiandeye, a prominent monarch, moved the motion for the adoption of Governor Otu, which was seconded by Chief Martin Orim, a former council legislator and Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Ben Ayade.

Both motions were unanimously adopted by the enthusiastic crowd, sealing the political endorsement in what many described as “a historic day for Obudu.”

Implications for 2027 Elections

Political analysts told Akahi News that the endorsement could shape the political narrative ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially in Cross River State where the APC continues to consolidate its dominance.

With President Tinubu’s administration pushing for economic reforms and Governor Otu championing people-centred policies at the state level, Friday’s rally may mark the beginning of a broader political movement in the region.

For residents of Obudu, the message appeared clear: continuity and consolidation of gains remain the community’s priority as the nation heads toward another electoral cycle.
