By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
In a significant boost to Nigeria’s industrial development, Ogun State has officially welcomed the Stellar Steel Company Limited, a $450 million investment jointly funded by Galaxy Group and RSIN Group from Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China. The project, which is already under active development, is expected to commence full operations by mid-2026, further cementing Ogun State’s status as Nigeria’s industrial capital.

According to information obtained by Akahi News, the new steel manufacturing facility will produce hot-rolled coil steel, iron steel doors, and gas cylinders — key materials that currently constitute a large portion of Nigeria’s import bill. Once operational, the factory will significantly reduce dependence on foreign steel imports, enhance local content development, and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians.

During a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Government, the Vice Chairman of RSIN Group, Mr. You Xiaotan, confirmed that levelling and foundation works for the plant have already been completed. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and praised the Ogun State government for its consistent support in ensuring the project remains on schedule.
In his remarks, Mr. Xiaotan reaffirmed the commitment of the Chinese consortium to delivering the project on time, highlighting the importance of the facility in deepening Nigeria’s industrial capacity and fostering long-term economic cooperation between both nations.

Akahi News gathered that the Stellar Steel project is being implemented under a bilateral industrial collaboration framework between Ogun State and China’s Fujian Province, with technical and financial backing from multiple Chinese partners.
Ogun State’s Vision for Industrial Transformation
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has repeatedly emphasised the importance of creating a business-friendly environment to attract both local and international investors. Through proactive policies and partnerships, Ogun has become one of Nigeria’s leading destinations for manufacturing and industrial investments.
Speaking on behalf of the government, an official from the Office of the Governor reiterated that Ogun State remains committed to sustaining a conducive environment for industrial growth, through efficient approval processes, accelerated issuance of Certificates of Occupancy, and the facilitation of tax waivers and other investment incentives.
The statement, sighted by Akahi News, reads in part:
“We reaffirm our support for Stellar Steel Company and all other investors in Ogun State. Every new investment validates our resolve to keep Ogun as Nigeria’s industrial hub — creating jobs, boosting productivity, and driving shared prosperity for our people.”
Shandong-Ogun Sister-State Partnership Bearing Fruit
The Ogun State Government’s sister-state partnership with Shandong Province, China, continues to yield visible results, especially in attracting high-value industrial investments. The collaboration, first initiated to strengthen trade and cultural ties, has now evolved into a strategic economic alliance that draws more Chinese investors into Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.
Akahi News notes that the arrival of Stellar Steel Company Limited adds to the growing list of Chinese-backed industries in Ogun, reinforcing confidence in the state’s economic management and industrial infrastructure.
Economic analysts believe the project could trigger a chain reaction of industrial growth across related sectors such as logistics, mining, and engineering services, further expanding Ogun’s contribution to national GDP.
Massive Economic Impact Expected
Experts told Akahi News that the $450 million steel plant will not only strengthen Nigeria’s local manufacturing base but also help save millions of dollars annually spent on importing steel products.
By producing hot-rolled coils, the factory will supply essential materials to the construction, automobile, and oil and gas industries, boosting Nigeria’s self-reliance in key industrial inputs. The plant’s expected employment capacity, both directly and through ancillary services, will also provide a major lift to local communities within Ogun’s industrial corridor.
Furthermore, the facility is projected to serve as a training hub for Nigerian engineers and technicians, thereby transferring technical knowledge and improving the domestic skills base.
Ogun State: Nigeria’s Industrial Beacon
Over the past few years, Akahi News has consistently reported Ogun State’s rising influence as the nation’s industrial powerhouse. From automobile assembly plants to agro-processing factories, the state has witnessed a surge in both domestic and international industrial investments.
The Stellar Steel Company Limited project now stands as another testament to Governor Abiodun’s sustained efforts to create a robust and globally competitive economy.
As the project advances toward completion in mid-2026, all eyes are on Ogun — the state that continues to redefine Nigeria’s industrial story.
