Omgbotuche Ayi Yala Engages Yala LGA Chairman on Developmental Priorities
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Members of the Omgbotuche Ayi Yala group have held a strategic meeting with the Chairman of Yala Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Fred Okem, to deliberate on the development of the council and other matters affecting the socio-economic growth of the people.

The meeting, which took place today, was described as both cordial and productive, providing a platform for open dialogue between the youth-led organisation and the local government leadership.
Key Focus of the Engagement
According to members of Omgbotuche Ayi Yala, the purpose of the meeting was to present critical issues concerning the welfare of Yala residents, as well as to strengthen collaboration with the local administration on initiatives that would advance peace, unity, and progress in the area.
The group expressed its desire to see meaningful infrastructural development, youth empowerment programmes, and increased government presence in rural communities.
In their remarks, the representatives emphasised that Yala, being one of the most populous local government areas in Cross River State, deserves deliberate investment in agriculture, education, healthcare, and road infrastructure. They further stressed that community-based organisations such as Omgbotuche Ayi Yala stand ready to partner with the council in mobilising grassroots support for sustainable development projects.
Chairman’s Response and Achievements
Responding to the delegation, Hon. Dr. Fred Okem highlighted some of his administration’s achievements so far, noting that despite challenges facing local government administrations in Nigeria, Yala has recorded progress in several areas.
He pointed to improvements in local security arrangements, the facilitation of community health outreach programmes, and efforts to maintain peace among different communities within the local government.
The Chairman also assured the delegation that more developmental projects were underway. He outlined plans aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, rehabilitating rural roads, and promoting youth-focused skill acquisition schemes to tackle unemployment in the council.
According to him, these initiatives would not only improve the quality of life for residents but also reposition Yala as a key contributor to the overall development of Cross River State.
Call for Unity and Collective Responsibility
While acknowledging the support of Omgbotuche Ayi Yala, Dr. Okem urged community leaders, youth groups, and traditional institutions to join hands with the local government in driving development. He noted that progress in Yala can only be sustained when all stakeholders work together with sincerity and commitment.
Members of the group, in turn, appreciated the Chairman’s openness and pledged their continuous prayers and support for the success of his administration. They expressed hope that the promises and developmental blueprints outlined during the meeting would soon materialise for the benefit of the people.
Looking Ahead
The meeting ended on a hopeful note, with both sides affirming their dedication to building a stronger and more prosperous Yala. For the group, the interaction marked a significant step in ensuring that grassroots voices are heard in governance, while for the Chairman, it reinforced the importance of inclusivity in leadership.
Omgbotuche Ayi Yala further reiterated that they would remain watchful, prayerful, and supportive, while also constructively engaging the local government to ensure the realisation of development projects across the council.
