The Parish Priest of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Pro-Cathedral Church, Lagere, Ile-Ife, Rev. Fr. Peter Adeyemi, has sent a brief but heartfelt message to members of the Catholic community, informing them that all priests of the Osogbo Catholic Diocese have commenced their annual spiritual retreat.

Akahi News gathered that the retreat began on Sunday, March 15, 2026, and will run throughout the week until Friday, March 20, 2026.
The spiritual exercise is taking place at St. Kizito Pastoral Centre in Ede, Osun State, where priests from across the diocese have gathered for a period of reflection, prayer, and spiritual renewal.
A Week of Prayer and Spiritual Renewal
Annual retreats are an important part of the spiritual life of Catholic priests. During this period, priests temporarily withdraw from their routine pastoral duties to dedicate time to deep prayer, reflection, and renewal of their priestly vocation.
Akahi News learnt that the retreat offers an opportunity for the clergy to examine their spiritual lives, meditate on the mission of the Church, and strengthen their commitment to serving God and humanity.
Such moments of retreat are deeply rooted in Christian tradition. From the example of Christ Himself—who often withdrew to quiet places to pray—the Church continues to encourage its ministers to seek periods of silence and contemplation.
But beyond tradition, the practice also raises thoughtful questions for the wider Christian community.
In a world constantly filled with noise, activity, and pressure, when was the last time many believers truly paused to reflect on the direction of their spiritual journey? Can a soul flourish without moments of quiet renewal? And if priests retreat to deepen their spiritual lives, should the faithful not also seek similar moments of reflection?
Message from the Parish Priest
In his brief message to parishioners of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Pro-Cathedral Church, Rev. Fr. Peter Adeyemi reassured the faithful that they remain in his prayers throughout the retreat.
The cleric expressed his hope that the week would be spiritually enriching not only for the priests but also for members of the Church who continue their daily lives and prayers.
His message reads:
Annual Priests’ Retreat
We are having our annual priests retreat from this night until next Friday.
I wish all of us a blessed, fruitful and grace-filled new week. Be assured of my prayer for your intentions.
Fr. Peter Adeyemi.
Akahi News observed that the message reflects the pastoral bond between the clergy and the faithful, even during moments when priests step away briefly for spiritual renewal.
Why Retreats Matter in the Life of the Church
Within the Catholic tradition, retreats serve as moments of rediscovery. They allow priests to reconnect with the spiritual foundation of their vocation and to renew the strength needed to continue their pastoral responsibilities.
For parishioners, knowing that their priests are praying and reflecting on behalf of the community often brings reassurance and spiritual comfort.
Yet the retreat also gently invites every believer to reflect on deeper questions.
What does spiritual renewal truly mean in modern life? Is prayer simply a routine practice, or can it become a transformative encounter with God? And how might communities change if individuals devoted even a small portion of their time to silence, reflection, and sincere prayer?
Akahi News gathered that parishioners at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Pro-Cathedral Church have welcomed the message from their parish priest, expressing prayers for a fruitful retreat for all priests of the diocese.
As the week progresses, the faithful are expected to continue participating in parish activities while spiritually accompanying their priests through prayer.
For many Catholics, the annual retreat is more than a clerical exercise—it is a reminder that the strength of the Church ultimately flows from its spiritual life.
And as the priests of the Osogbo Catholic Diocese spend this week in reflection at St. Kizito Pastoral Centre, one enduring hope remains: that renewed hearts will return to their parishes with deeper wisdom, greater compassion, and a stronger commitment to guiding their communities in faith.
