Omisore Says He Commands 90% Support Within Osun APC
Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has expressed strong confidence in his chances of emerging victorious in the party’s upcoming governorship primary, scheduled for later this year.
According to a report by Punch, Omisore made this declaration on Tuesday in Osogbo while formally announcing his intention to contest the Osun 2026 governorship election under the APC platform. He stated that over 90 per cent of the party members are in support of his ambition.
“I am optimistic. If we go to the primaries today, I will win more than 90 per cent,” Omisore told supporters. “By God’s grace, I shall emerge and deliver the APC government by next year August.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed November 24 to December 15, 2025, for political parties to conduct their primaries ahead of the August 8, 2026, governorship election in Osun State.
‘APC’s Chances in 2026 Are 100%’ — Omisore
During the declaration, Omisore described the APC as fully prepared to reclaim Osun in 2026, adding that his campaign symbolises a “rescue mission” for the party.
He said, “Going forward, I am expecting Osun people to vote for APC en masse come August 8, 2026. This is to show the preparedness of core APC members across the state and their readiness to ensure that I become the party’s candidate by God’s grace.”
The politician, who once represented Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2003 and 2011, highlighted that his governance would focus on maturity in leadership, education, agriculture, rural development, infrastructure, capital investment, and impartial public policies.
Growing List of Aspirants and Internal Tensions
Akahi News gathered that Omisore will face stiff competition from other prominent APC figures, including:
- Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA)
- Senator Babajide Omoworare, former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business
- Dotun Babayemi, lawyer and son of the late Olufi of Gbongan
- Benedict Alabi, immediate past Deputy Governor of Osun State
- Akin Ogunbiyi, Chairman of Mutual Assurance Benefits
- Kunle Adegoke (SAN), a respected legal practitioner
The growing list of aspirants has reportedly caused friction within the party, especially among supporters on social media, who have engaged in heated debates to promote or demarket their preferred candidates.
Osun APC Moves to Quell Internal Crisis
To address the brewing tension, the Osun APC State Working Committee (SWC) has issued strict guidelines to curb indiscipline among members.
In a statement signed by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the SWC prohibited executive members across all party levels — from state to ward — from serving as coordinators for any governorship aspirant.
“The APC has resolved to instil discipline among erring members by instantly outlawing any executive officer from being a coordinator of any governorship aspirant,” the statement read in part.
This move, according to political observers, is intended to maintain unity ahead of the primaries and ensure that the party presents a strong front against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2026.
Political Analysts React
Analysts believe Omisore’s declaration may reshape the political landscape in Osun APC, given his long-standing influence and experience in the state’s politics. However, others argue that the outcome of the primaries will depend on how well the party manages its internal disputes before December.
A political observer in Osogbo told Akahi News, “Omisore has grassroots connections and deep structures within Osun APC, but the battle will be intense because other aspirants also command strong loyalty across regions.”
As Osun gears up for what promises to be a highly competitive political season, all eyes remain on the APC’s internal dynamics and how the party will navigate its primaries to select a candidate capable of reclaiming power from the PDP in 2026.
