The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, secure, transparent and credible 2026 Osun State election, following an address by the Commissioner of Police in charge of Elections, Osun State, CP Samuel Erale Etaifo.
In a statement shared by the Force Public Relations Officer, the Police emphasised that adequate security personnel have been deployed across the state ahead of the polls.

Police Assure Voters and Stakeholders
The deployment is expected to cover voters, electoral officials, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
The Police said its responsibility extends beyond election day, stressing that personnel will remain committed to maintaining security before, during and after the election.
This assurance is particularly significant in an election environment where public confidence in security arrangements can influence voter turnout and the overall credibility of the electoral process.
Akahi News Analysis
The Police declaration is a welcome development, but the real test will not be the strength of the statement—it will be its implementation on the ground.
For the election to be genuinely peaceful and credible, security personnel must remain professional, politically neutral and accessible to all legitimate participants, regardless of political affiliation.
Voters must also be able to move freely to polling units without intimidation, while electoral officials and sensitive election materials require adequate protection.
Equally important is the conduct of political actors and their supporters. Even the most comprehensive security deployment cannot guarantee a peaceful election if candidates, party agents and supporters deliberately provoke violence or disregard electoral rules.
The success of #OsunDecides2026 will therefore depend on a shared responsibility: the Police must provide impartial security, electoral officials must uphold the rules, political actors must respect democratic procedures, and citizens must reject violence.
The Police have made the promise. Osun State now needs to see that promise translated into professional action across every polling unit.
Akahi News learnt that the Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its readiness to protect citizens and other election stakeholders before, during and after the Osun State polls.
