Osun Deputy Governor Calls for Calm as PDP Crisis in Ife Federal Constituency Rises
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The Osun State Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, has appealed to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ife Federal Constituency to allow the party’s leadership to mediate a swift and amicable resolution to the recent internal dispute that has attracted widespread media attention.

Describing the development as “a storm in a teacup,” Adewusi sought to downplay the crisis, urging party members to focus on their collective mission of serving the people of Osun State rather than internal disagreements.
Vote of No Confidence Sparks Tensions
The crisis reportedly began when the PDP in Ife Federal Constituency passed a vote of no confidence on Adewusi and two other party chieftains, alleging anti-party activities. The action, which has dominated local media coverage, generated concern about potential fractures within the party ahead of the 2026 electoral calendar.
Reacting to the development, the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, issued a statement on Tuesday calling for calm and cautioning members to suspend any action that could escalate the situation further.
Adewusi Counsels Restraint
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Goke Awoyemi, Deputy Governor Adewusi stressed that internal disagreements are a natural feature of party politics. He urged all members to treat the matter as a minor internal issue, which should not distract them from the broader goal of serving the people.
“The attention of the office of the Deputy Governor, Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi, has been drawn to various media publications on a seeming crisis that reportedly erupted at a meeting in Ife East Local Government Area among the political gladiators in Ife Federal Constituency zone, insinuating the vote of no confidence and suspension of His Excellency, Prince Kola Adewusi, Deputy Governor, Osun State, and a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Professor Wale Oladipo,” the statement read in part.
“We wish to bring it to the awareness of the general public that inasmuch as internal wranglings are embedded in party politicking, this should strengthen the system and our collective reasoning, and should not be allowed to weaken our collective effort in serving our immediate communities and society at large.”
Call for Unity Ahead of 2026 Elections
Adewusi further appealed to both sides of the dispute to “sheath their swords” and allow the party’s top hierarchy to pacify the aggrieved members. He stressed that this period should be dedicated to collective efforts and preparation for the upcoming 2026 elections rather than celebrating or amplifying internal conflicts.
“To the public media space that has been awash with this unpleasant report, we also want them to see the same as a minor family affair that will be resolved in a family way,” Adewusi added. “When we quarrel with our wives before leaving home in the morning, we come to an amicable settlement in the other room when we return at night. It is a storm in a teacup.”
The Deputy Governor’s statement reflects a broader attempt by PDP leadership in Osun to project unity and maintain focus on governance and party cohesion amid localised disagreements. Party observers believe that effective conflict resolution within the Ife Federal Constituency will be crucial in maintaining momentum for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration and the party’s electoral strategy for 2026.
