Osun Police Arrest Six Suspected Cultists in Osogbo Raids, Recover Drugs and Cash

The Osun State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists during intelligence-led raids on identified criminal hideouts in Osogbo, the state capital, as security operatives intensify efforts to tackle cultism and other criminal activities.

The arrests were announced on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, by the police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, following targeted operations conducted in line with directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan Zungura.

Police Identify Six Suspects

The police identified the suspects as Ajibade Lateef, 21; Olaniyi Kabiru, 27; Ifaleke Ifedeji, 18; Tajudeen Wasiu, 35; Abideen Babatunde, 35; and Opeyemi Lukman, 18.

According to the police, preliminary investigations allegedly linked the suspects to the Eiye Confraternity and a gang suspected of terrorising residents around the Mackay Junction area of Osogbo.

The allegations have yet to be established in court. The suspects remain entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Suspected Charms, Drugs and Cash Recovered

During the operations, police operatives reportedly recovered suspected criminal charms, illicit drugs and cash believed to be proceeds from drug-related activities.

The command said the raids formed part of its wider strategy to identify criminal hideouts, disrupt suspected criminal networks and strengthen security across Osogbo and other parts of Osun State.

However, the police announcement did not establish that every recovered item was connected to a specific offence committed by any individual suspect.

Police Intensify Crackdown on Cultism

CP Ibrahim Gotan Zungura urged parents, guardians, community leaders, landlords and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or suspected criminal activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency channels.

The commissioner also warned young people against cultism, illicit drugs and criminal associations, stressing the potential consequences of involvement in unlawful activities.

The police command said intelligence gathering and targeted raids would continue in identified criminal hideouts as part of efforts to protect lives and property.

Renewed Concerns Over Cult-Related Violence

The latest arrests come amid renewed concerns about cult-related violence in Osogbo, where reported clashes involving suspected rival cult groups have raised security concerns.

Effective policing, timely intelligence and cooperation between residents and security agencies are important in preventing violence and ensuring that suspected offenders are brought before the courts.

Nevertheless, sustained security operations must be accompanied by respect for due process and the rights of suspects. Arrests are an important step in an investigation, but allegations must be supported by evidence and determined through lawful judicial proceedings.

Residents are encouraged to provide credible information to security agencies rather than resorting to vigilantism or spreading unverified accusations.

Akahi News will continue to monitor developments in Osun State as the police pursue efforts to curb cultism and other criminal activities.
