Governor Oyebanji stated this on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti during the commissioning of the Oshodi electrification project, describing it as a major milestone in his administration’s efforts to improve access to electricity and enhance community development.

Electricity as a Catalyst for Growth and Development

Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, Governor Oyebanji noted that electricity remains central to economic advancement, as it powers businesses, enhances education, improves healthcare services, and enriches the overall quality of life within communities.

“This event is yet another testimony to the commitment of our administration to provide critical infrastructure that enhances the welfare and economic well-being of our people,” the governor said.

“We recognize that electricity is essential for development — it powers businesses, supports education, improves healthcare delivery, and enhances the overall quality of life in communities. With the completion of this project, the community will experience renewed economic activity and better living conditions.”

Oyebanji added that the newly commissioned electrification project would serve as a “game changer” for the Oshodi community, stimulating small and medium-scale enterprises, reducing rural-urban migration, and creating an enabling environment for growth.

Government Praised for Commitment to Power Sector Reforms

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Power Infrastructure, Engr. Philip Atere, applauded Governor Oyebanji for his passion-driven investments in rural electrification, noting that the administration’s interventions have brought light to several communities that had been without electricity for over fifteen years.

A group of officials and community leaders gathered under a tent at the commissioning of the Oshodi electrification project in Ekiti State, with one woman speaking into a microphone while others listen attentively.

He described the Oshodi electrification project as a bold step toward addressing energy poverty and promoting inclusive development in rural areas.

“This project is a huge investment that takes only a visionary and compassionate leader like Governor Oyebanji to actualize. His dedication to ensuring power access across all local government areas in Ekiti State is evident in the number of communities now connected to the grid,” Atere stated.

He also emphasised the need to continue supporting rural dwellers with essential infrastructure to curb urban migration and ensure balanced development.

Community Leaders Urge Residents to Protect Public Assets

In separate goodwill messages, the Chairpersons of Ado North LCDA, Hon. Tokunbo Gbadamosi, and Ado Central LCDA, Hon. Toyin Ojo, commended the state government for its continued investment in grassroots development. They urged residents to take full ownership of the newly installed electricity infrastructure by safeguarding transformers and related facilities against vandalism and theft.

According to them, protecting public assets is crucial to sustaining uninterrupted power supply and maximising the benefits of government investments in rural electrification.

“When communities take ownership of government projects, they not only preserve the infrastructure but also ensure continued access to power for economic and social activities,” they said.

A Future Built on Infrastructure and Inclusion

Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed that his administration would remain committed to executing people-oriented projects that promote inclusive development, enhance productivity, and foster prosperity across all sectors.

The Oshodi electrification project, he added, reflects his government’s broader vision to position Ekiti as a state where every community benefits from sustainable infrastructure, regardless of location.

Through consistent investment in electricity, roads, education, and healthcare, the Oyebanji administration aims to build an Ekiti that is not only self-reliant but also competitive within the broader Nigerian economy.
