Panic as CNG Bus Explodes at Kaduna Motor Park
Akahi News learnt that residents and transport operators in Kaduna were thrown into panic early Sunday morning when a luxury travel bus reportedly powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) suddenly exploded at Mando Motor Park.
Eyewitnesses at the park described the scene as chaotic. Smoke and a loud blast caused immediate alarm across the facility. Sources confirmed that the bus was parked at the time of the explosion, though details about casualties or the cause of the blast are still emerging.

Two other buses caught in the fire
Akahi News gathered that two other buses belonging to the same transport company were also affected by the fire that followed the blast. Flames spread quickly from the initial point of explosion.
Despite the impact, no casualties were recorded. Why? Because the vehicles were unoccupied at the time. That single fact—emptiness—may have saved lives.
A commercial driver at the park told Akahi News that the incident was unlikely to have been caused by a bomb. “It happened during the night. It was not a bomb; we suspect it is related to the CNG. No one died or was injured. The affected buses were parked,” the driver said.
Newly acquired buses scheduled for morning boarding
A manager with a logistics company operating within the park also confirmed that the buses were stationary when the explosion occurred. According to him, the affected vehicles were newly acquired and scheduled to begin passenger boarding later in the morning.
“Thank God no one was inside the vehicles. They were parked to board passengers this morning,” he said.
But here is the question every commuter must ask: What if this had happened two hours later? What if families had already settled into their seats, children waving goodbye, mothers praying for safe journey? The thought alone is chilling.
Security operatives arrive at scene
Akahi News had earlier reported that CNG-powered vehicles are being promoted as an alternative to costly petrol. But incidents like this raise urgent safety concerns. Who certifies these conversions? Who inspects parked CNG buses overnight? And what stops this from happening again?
Security operatives, including personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, visited the scene and began preliminary investigations into the incident. As of the time of filing this report, the police had yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the explosion.
For now, Kaduna residents and transport operators are counting their blessings. No death. No injury. But the smoke from that blast carries a warning. And wise men do not ignore warnings.
