PDP Urges Federal Government to Prioritise Security, Welfare in 2026
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Federal Government to make security, citizens’ welfare, and people-centred governance its top priorities in 2026, warning that Nigerians can no longer endure governance driven by politics rather than compassion.
In a New Year message released on Thursday, the party stressed that the country urgently needs leadership that puts the safety and wellbeing of citizens above partisan interests. The statement was signed by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ini Ememobong.

Call for People-Centred Governance
According to the PDP, 2026 must not become “another chapter of broken promises” but a decisive turning point where governance truly reflects the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
Akahi News gathered that the opposition party expressed deep concern over persistent insecurity, economic hardship, and declining public confidence in governance, urging the Federal Government to recommit to its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property across the country.
“The interests of Nigerians, not partisan considerations or political survival, must guide every action of government,” Ememobong said. “Those entrusted with power are not rulers, but servants of the people, whose mandate must be exercised with humility and accountability.”
Warning Against Institutional Compromise
The PDP spokesperson also cautioned key democratic institutions — including the judiciary, the electoral body, and security agencies — against succumbing to pressure, inducement, or fear in the discharge of their duties.
He warned that democracy cannot survive in an environment where justice is compromised and impunity is allowed to thrive unchecked, stressing that institutional integrity remains central to national stability.
According to Akahi News, the party noted that weakening democratic institutions would only deepen public distrust and further endanger Nigeria’s fragile democratic foundations.
Reaffirming Solidarity With Nigerians
Ememobong reaffirmed the PDP’s solidarity with Nigerians amid widespread economic challenges and insecurity, pledging that the party would continue to speak truth to power.
“We will continue to stand with the people until governance reflects their will, welfare, and aspirations,” he said, while extending New Year greetings to Nigerians.
Political observers say the statement underscores growing pressure on the Federal Government to deliver tangible improvements in security and economic wellbeing as the new year unfolds.
Akahi News will continue to monitor developments and reactions surrounding the PDP’s position and the government’s response in the coming weeks.
