PDP Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket to the South, Retains NWC Zoning Formula
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially resolved to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, while maintaining the existing National Working Committee (NWC) zoning arrangement ahead of its November elective convention.

NEC Meeting Outcome
The decision was reached during the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday. Addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, explained that the resolution followed the submission of a zoning report by the committee chaired by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
According to Ologunagba, the NEC further expressed satisfaction with the level of preparations for the November convention, affirming the party’s readiness to strengthen its internal structures.
Zoning Breakdown
He stated, “NEC recommended that the North and South should retain their current NWC positions. NEC also resolved that since the National Chairman of the party is zoned to the North, the PDP 2027 presidential ticket is hereby zoned to the South.”
Implications for 2027 Elections
The resolution sets the stage for political realignments as the PDP begins early positioning for the 2027 general elections. With the zoning now officially in place, attention will shift towards potential Southern aspirants likely to emerge in the build-up to the primaries.
