“Today, I, with Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and Segun Adebanjo, visited President Obasanjo on a courtesy visit. Thereafter, we visited the new Olubadan of Ibadan, Kabiyesi Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja. In both visits, we were fortunate to discuss the state of our nation and how all of us can live in unity, love, fairness, and justice progressively together,” Obi wrote.

Renewed Hope for a New Nigeria

Obi expressed optimism that bringing together competent and committed individuals would be crucial in realising the dream of a new and prosperous Nigeria.

“The meetings make me believe that the coming together of a competent team with capacity, compassion, and commitment can build a new Nigeria that is possible,” he added, reaffirming his political mantra of a “POssible Nigeria.”

Symbolism of the Visits

Political observers have noted the significance of Obi’s visit to President Obasanjo, a prominent figure who has often spoken on issues of national unity and good governance. The former president has consistently advocated for leadership anchored on justice, equity, and accountability—principles Obi has emphasised in his political campaigns.

Similarly, meeting with the Olubadan of Ibadan, one of the most respected traditional rulers in Nigeria’s South-West region, underscores Obi’s efforts to engage stakeholders across political and cultural lines in the quest for national cohesion.

Supporters React

Obi’s visits have generated reactions from his supporters and political analysts alike. Many see the engagements as part of ongoing consultations aimed at building alliances across different regions and political blocs ahead of future political developments.

Supporters have praised the move as a demonstration of Obi’s commitment to inclusive leadership and national reconciliation.

While Peter Obi has not officially declared his intentions regarding the 2027 elections, Sunday’s visits are expected to spark further political conversations about opposition unity and the prospects of building a broad-based coalition to challenge the ruling party in future polls.

For now, Obi maintains that his focus remains on advocating for good governance, unity, and the creation of a “new Nigeria” where competence, compassion, and commitment take centre stage in leadership.
