Police Arrest Eleven Suspected Robbers and Fraudsters in Delta and Edo States

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of eleven suspected robbers and fraudsters who allegedly specialized in robbing and defrauding unsuspecting victims across Delta and Edo States.

The arrests, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, followed credible intelligence gathered by operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team between 11th and 16th August 2025.

Modus Operandi of the Syndicate

Akahi News gathered that the suspects usually operated under the guise of asking for directions, before allegedly hypnotising their victims and dispossessing them of valuable items, including mobile phones, motorcycles, jewellery, and in some cases, draining their bank accounts.

Those arrested include:

  • Ibrukoko (32), from Ovu community, Ethiope East LGA
  • Obruche Actor (31), from Emede community, Isoko South LGA
  • Lucky Umukoro (28), from Eku community, Ethiope East LGA
  • Emmanuel Buruutu (22), from Agbarho community, Ughelli North LGA
  • Musa Abdulahi (27), from Kafancha, Jamma’a LGA, Kaduna State
  • Sokoh (30), from Ovwian community, Udu LGA
  • Preye Julius (36)
  • Kadija Abass (30), from Gidama community, Ilela LGA, Sokoto State

Items Recovered and Amount Defrauded

Police operatives recovered two Toyota Camry vehicles with registration numbers LND-809-HE and KSF-61-JU, alongside sixteen suspected stolen iPhones.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had defrauded victims of more than ₦23.5 million. Reports also indicate that about 42 iPhones were stolen in separate incidents, while at least twelve victims have so far been identified.

Additional Arrests for Ladder Theft

Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ekpan Division launched an operation following multiple complaints of stolen ladders. One of the suspects, identified as Esquire Stanley, was apprehended after investigations revealed that he sold the ladders at ₦20,000 each, despite their actual market value of about ₦250,000.

Further investigations led to the arrest of four receivers: Chinedu Okorie, Orgi Abara, Philip Augustine, and Obone Jevwe. In total, eleven stolen ladders were recovered during the operation.
