Police Declare Sowore Wanted Over Alleged Plot to Disrupt Traffic on Third Mainland Bridge
Lagos Police Foil Alleged Protest Plan by Sowore-Led Group
The Lagos State Police Command has declared political activist, Omoyele Sowore, wanted for allegedly attempting to cause a public disturbance through a planned solidarity protest that was expected to obstruct vehicular movement on the Third Mainland Bridge.
According to reports gathered by Akahi News, the demonstration was reportedly organised in reaction to the recent demolition of structures at Oworo Community, Lagos. The protest, allegedly spearheaded by Sowore, was intended to draw attention to what organisers described as an “unjust displacement” of residents in the area.

However, in swift response, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, led a combined team of tactical units and patrol officers to strategic points within Iyana Oworo and adjoining areas to forestall any unlawful gathering or procession.
Police Deployment Ensures Free Flow of Traffic
Akahi News learnt that the heavy police presence around Iyana Oworo and the Third Mainland Bridge effectively deterred protesters from converging at the planned rally point. Vehicular movement along the bridge remained smooth throughout the operation, despite early fears of traffic disruption.
Commissioner Jimoh commended the officers involved in the preventive operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the state. He disclosed that intelligence reports indicated that the Sowore-led group might attempt to regroup elsewhere within the Oworo axis.
“We received credible intelligence suggesting plans by Sowore and his associates to stage an unlawful protest capable of causing public disorder. Our deployment was, therefore, necessary to protect lives, property, and the rights of Lagosians to free movement,” the CP stated.
Sowore Declared Wanted
In a statement personally signed by the Lagos Police Commissioner, Olohundare Jimoh, Sowore was declared wanted for what the Command described as an “act of causing disturbance of public peace.”
“I hereby, as the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, declare Sowore wanted for the act of causing disturbance of public peace,” Jimoh declared.
The Command urged residents to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses, assuring that adequate security arrangements had been made to prevent any breach of peace in the state.
As of the time of filing this report, Akahi News could not independently confirm whether Sowore had responded to the police declaration or if any arrests had been made in connection with the alleged planned protest.
Background: Tensions Over Oworo Demolitions
The Oworo demolition exercise has sparked outrage among residents and activists, many of whom accuse the state government of failing to provide adequate notice or resettlement plans for affected families. While authorities insist that the structures were erected illegally on drainage channels and road setbacks, human rights groups have described the move as “inhumane and poorly timed.”
Observers believe the escalating tension surrounding the demolitions could heighten political and social agitation if not carefully managed by both government and civil society leaders.
