Rep Bamidele Salam Calls for Unity, Empathy and Renewed Hope Among Nigerians

Hon. Bamidele Salam, the lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and steadfast in building a united country, regardless of prevailing challenges.

The call was made during his annual medical and welfare outreach for elderly persons, held on Wednesday at Awo in Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State. The programme, which coincided with the International Day of Older Persons, catered to about 2,500 senior citizens through health interventions and welfare support.

Outreach for Elderly Citizens

According to Akahi News, Salam’s initiative brought together medical experts who provided health examinations, treatments for various conditions, eye tests, free prescribed glasses, and essential drugs. In addition, welfare packages containing food items and transport assistance were distributed to beneficiaries, most of whom were retirees and aged persons above 65 years.

The lawmaker explained that this year’s programme was centralised in one location to ensure broader participation and his personal involvement. “One of the challenges of ageing is deteriorating health, and this initiative is our little way of showing empathy and support,” Salam said.

Call for National Unity

Beyond the medical outreach, Salam emphasised the need for Nigerians to embrace unity across ethnic, religious, and social lines. He maintained that citizens must see themselves as brothers and sisters working collectively towards national progress.

Akahi News learnt that the legislator also used the occasion to drum support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing him as a leader delivering “quality governance” to the people of Osun State. Salam urged residents to continue to pray for and support the governor in sustaining peace and development.

Voices from the Event

Akintayo Jimoh, Senior Legislative Aide to Hon. Salam, confirmed that over 2,500 elderly persons benefited from the outreach. He explained that the medical and welfare interventions were designed not only to provide relief but also to promote social inclusion for vulnerable groups within the constituency.

Observers at the event noted that Salam’s gesture highlights the role of lawmakers in bridging gaps between government policies and the needs of grassroots communities.

As the country continues to grapple with economic and social challenges, Salam’s message of hope and solidarity resonates strongly. Analysts believe such initiatives could foster stronger bonds between leaders and citizens, particularly in rural areas where government presence is often limited.

In his closing remarks, Salam encouraged Nigerians never to lose hope but to continue contributing positively to the growth of the nation.
