  • 10.8KM Aking–Osomba Road in Akamkpa LGA

These projects are expected to significantly improve connectivity within the state, ease the movement of agricultural produce, and serve as critical economic corridors for rural and semi-urban communities.

Leaders Commend NDDC Efforts

The Senate delegation was received by the Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government, Hon. Felix Akposi, along with Hon. Okon Owuna and Hon. Linus Bassey, representing Akamkpa Constituencies 1 and 2 in the Cross River State House of Assembly. Councillors and community leaders from the host communities were also present.

Speaking during the inspection, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong praised the NDDC for its renewed focus on infrastructure delivery:

“What we are witnessing here today is a practical demonstration of the NDDC’s renewed commitment to infrastructural development in the Niger Delta. These roads are vital commodities evacuation corridors for our people, opening up communities, boosting trade, and improving access to markets, schools, and healthcare.”

He further noted that the 10th Senate, under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, remains committed to supporting projects that will enhance socio-economic development in the region. The Senator also commended Governor Bassey Otu for his infrastructure drive across Cross River State, while urging the NDDC to sustain its interventionist role.

NDDC Assures of Quality Delivery

In his remarks, the Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, reaffirmed the Commission’s determination to deliver durable infrastructure that meets the needs of the people:

“The NDDC is determined to deliver durable infrastructure that truly benefits our people. These roads will ease transportation burdens and drive socio-economic growth in Cross River State and beyond. We will continue to work with the Senate Committee and all stakeholders to ensure transparency, accountability, and timely completion of projects.”

Dr. Ogbuku’s commitment was particularly lauded as he resumed field duties in Akamkpa barely 12 hours after celebrating his 50th birthday in Abuja, showcasing what stakeholders described as “a renewed sense of leadership and dedication.”

Boost for Cross River Communities

Akahi News gathered that the inspected roads, once completed, will play a crucial role in transforming the local economy of Akamkpa, Biase, and Akpabuyo LGAs. The projects are expected to reduce travel time, enhance access to healthcare and education, and improve agricultural productivity by facilitating the movement of farm produce to markets.

Stakeholders across the communities expressed optimism that the inspection visit by the Senate Committee will fast-track the timely completion of the projects and ensure strict monitoring for quality delivery.

With the NDDC pledging transparency and accountability in its operations, expectations are high among residents that these projects will not only meet global construction standards but also serve as lasting infrastructure for future generations.
