Senator Iyiola Omisore Eyes 2026 Osun Governorship, Urges Stakeholders’ Support
The former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared his readiness to contest the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election, stressing the need to dismantle what he described as the incumbent administration’s ill-governance.
During continuous consultations held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, across Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas, Omisore emphasised that the APC must present a viable candidate capable of tackling the current administration in the polls scheduled for August 8, 2026.
Call for Collective Decision-Making
Akahi News gathered that Omisore urged party stakeholders to actively participate in selecting the governorship candidate, warning against leaving the decision to individual preference.
“If we fail to give a viable aspirant the ticket, we will fail and lose. We must consider an aspirant who has held an elective position to run for the 2026 guber race,” Omisore said.
“Governorship seat should not be given based on friendship; you should not hire your friend for a job he can’t deliver. All of us who are contesting this race are all brothers.”
He further stressed that the process should involve all interest groups, stakeholders, and the voting population of the aspirant, describing it as a collective testimony necessary for party unity and electoral success.
Campaign and Support
The consultations form part of Omisore’s strategic outreach to consolidate support ahead of the APC primaries. He encouraged supporters to turn out in large numbers on December 13, 2025, when the party will select its governorship flag bearer.
“I want to charge all of us that on 13th of December 2025, we should troop out to show love to me by choosing me as the candidate of the party for the 2026 guber race,” Omisore declared.
The Consultation Coordinator, Hon Ajibola Famurewa, expressed optimism, saying, “Every local government we have visited, they showed us love and acceptance. I am confident that Senator Omisore will emerge as the flag bearer of APC on December 13th, 2025.”
