The Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has commenced early consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, signalling the gradual intensification of political activities across Nigeria.

His first consultation visit took place in Obanliku Local Government Area, where he engaged traditional rulers and key political stakeholders, seeking their support and prayers for his re-election ambition.
Akahi News gathered that the meeting brought together members of the Obanliku Traditional Rulers Council and stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighting the importance of grassroots engagement in Nigeria’s political process.
Early Moves Ahead of 2027
Addressing the gathering, Senator Jarigbe explained that the consultation was aimed at formally informing the people of his intention to seek another term in office.
He emphasised that his engagement with constituents did not begin with election season, noting that his visits and developmental efforts have been consistent since the last electoral cycle.
“We are here to interface with you. The good thing is that, after the last election, we did not wait until the next election before we are coming again. We have been coming and we have been working,” he said.
Akahi News learnt that the senator also reassured stakeholders of his commitment to delivering more developmental projects and improving the welfare of the people if re-elected.
But this raises a deeper question: should political accountability be measured only during election cycles, or should it be a continuous obligation between leaders and the people?
Stakeholders React, Pledge Support
In their separate remarks, local leaders including the Executive Chairman of Obanliku LGA, the Paramount Ruler, and the APC Chapter Chairman commended the senator for what they described as impactful representation.
They highlighted infrastructural projects and human capital development initiatives attracted to the area within a relatively short period.
Akahi News gathered that stakeholders expressed appreciation for his consistent engagement and pledged continued support for his leadership.
This moment of endorsement brings another reflection: is political loyalty built on performance, personal connection, or a combination of both?
The Politics of Consultation and Representation
Senator Jarigbe’s move reflects a broader trend in Nigerian politics, where early consultations and stakeholder engagement play a critical role in shaping electoral outcomes.
Consultations often serve as both a political strategy and a test of public perception, allowing candidates to gauge support while reinforcing alliances.
Akahi News observed that such engagements also underscore the enduring influence of traditional institutions and grassroots structures in democratic processes.
Yet, a fundamental question remains: do consultations truly reflect the will of the people, or do they primarily represent the voices of influential stakeholders?
As political activities gradually gather momentum, Senator Jarigbe’s consultations may mark the beginning of a wider campaign strategy aimed at consolidating support across the senatorial district.
The presence of political figures and community leaders at the meeting further signals the importance of unity and coalition-building in the lead-up to the elections.
However, beyond endorsements and promises, the electorate will ultimately judge based on tangible outcomes and lived experiences.
So, as 2027 approaches, one pressing question lingers: will performance outweigh political rhetoric when voters return to the polls?
For now, the consultations continue—quietly shaping the political landscape long before the ballots are cast.
