In a significant move to bridge rural-urban gaps and boost infrastructural development in Cross River North, the Senator representing the senatorial district, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has officially flagged off the construction of the Igwo-Nwako Road in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State. The landmark project is set to transform lives by opening up rural communities to economic opportunities and social progress.

The flag-off ceremony, held amidst cheers and jubilations from the local residents, marked a turning point for the people of Igwo and Nwako communities and their neighbours in Benue State, whom the road directly connects. The event attracted traditional leaders, youth groups, community stakeholders, and political associates.

Speaking on behalf of Senator Jarigbe, the Senator’s Constituency Officer, Mr. Egar Mgbantul, described the road project as “a dream come true” for the long-neglected communities. He stressed that the Senator’s vision transcends mere campaign promises, as demonstrated by his action-oriented approach to governance.

“Senator Jarigbe is not just building roads; he is building bridges of opportunity. This Igwo-Nwako road will link producers to markets, workers to jobs, students to schools, and the sick to hospitals,” Mr. Mgbantul stated. “It is part of his larger commitment to sustainable development through inclusive and people-driven infrastructure.”

The road, which is designed to meet modern engineering standards, is expected to boost inter-state connectivity between Cross River and Benue States, facilitate trade and mobility, and reduce the isolation that has long stifled the economic potential of these agrarian communities. Farmers, market women, and transporters who often face difficulties transporting goods due to deplorable road conditions are now hopeful for relief and prosperity.

In his goodwill remarks, Chief Vincent Iduku, who represented the Clan Head of Igwo Community, lauded Senator Jarigbe for his responsive leadership and foresight. He described the lawmaker’s gesture as a long-awaited answer to the heartfelt prayers of the people.

“For years, our voices echoed in silence. But today, through the Senator’s intervention, we have been heard,” Chief Iduku declared. “We are grateful for this road that will connect us not just to our neighbours, but to new possibilities. We pray for the Senator’s protection and wisdom and pledge our full support in his continued service to humanity.”

The Igwo-Nwako road project is part of a broader rural development strategy being championed by Senator Jarigbe since his assumption of office. Over the years, he has continued to attract critical federal and constituency projects, focusing on education, healthcare, electrification, and road infrastructure across Cross River North, particularly in hard-to-reach communities.

Local residents who spoke with Akahi News shared mixed emotions of excitement and relief, recounting years of hardship caused by the poor state of the road. A local farmer, Mama Asabe Ikwem, said, “During rainy seasons, we are completely cut off. Our yams and cassava spoil because we can’t take them to the market. This road is not just cement and gravel—it’s our freedom.”

For many, the project signals a new chapter of government presence, long overdue in this neglected axis of Cross River State. Youth leaders and civil society observers also praised Senator Jarigbe for setting a pace in people-oriented governance, urging other public office holders to emulate his developmental strides.

As bulldozers roar to life and work begins in earnest, the Igwo-Nwako road stands as a shining symbol of democratic dividends delivered at the grassroots. For Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, it is yet another testament to his resolve to make governance impactful, equitable, and community-centred.
