Seven Killed in Osun Community Clash as Police Arrest Three Suspects

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects following a violent clash in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area, which claimed seven lives and left several others injured.

According to reports gathered by Akahi News, the chaos erupted when operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps reportedly attempted to recover firearms allegedly seized by suspected hoodlums in the area. The confrontation, however, spiralled out of control, leading to an exchange that left seven people dead.

Among the confirmed casualties are Ibrahim Oyebamiji (26), Sefiu Oyebamiji, and Abiola Olutayo, while those injured include Adeagbo Kadijat (22), Oke-Ila Oyebamiji (60), and Fayomi Toheeb (19). The victims are said to be indigenes of Akinlalu, a quiet community now thrown into mourning and uncertainty.

Police Confirm Arrests, Launch Investigation

Speaking on the incident, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, disclosed that three suspects had been apprehended and were currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo.

“The Command is investigating all aspects of this case — from claims of assault and impersonation to allegations of unlawful possession of firearms,” Gotan stated, assuring residents that justice would be served after a thorough and impartial probe.

Governor Adeleke Orders Full-Scale Probe

Governor Ademola Adeleke described the killings as “tragic and unacceptable.” Through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor directed a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and promised that justice would take its course.

In a related statement, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Jimi Bada, condoled with the bereaved families and assured that the state government would ensure accountability and fair prosecution for anyone found culpable.

Community Leaders Appeal for Calm

The traditional ruler of Akinlalu, Oba Oloyede Aborisade, joined other community leaders in calling for calm and cooperation with the authorities. The monarch urged the police and other security agencies to ensure a transparent investigation and prevent further unrest in the area.

As of press time, the Akinlalu community remains tense, with heightened security presence as investigators continue to unravel the cause of the deadly confrontation.
