Ede, Osun State – In a compelling interview at the recently concluded Marriage and Family Life Training held at St. Kizito Pastoral Centre, Ede, Mr. and Mrs. Monday Irabor attributed their 39 years of successful marriage to the pillars of love, effective communication, and a constant attitude of forgiveness.
The veteran couple shared their insights with Yahe-Yala People’s Forum host, Iyaji Joseph Akahi, encouraging young and intending couples to embrace the sacredness of marital union with maturity and deep understanding.
Speaking on the Church’s position regarding divorce, the Irabors emphasized that according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, divorce is not permitted. However, they noted that the Church recognizes the processes of separation and annulment, particularly in cases where a marriage may have been entered under false pretenses.
“Young people should not rush into marriage,” Mrs. Irabor warned, adding, “Marriage is a covenant, not a contract. It demands commitment, communication, and proper understanding.”
The couple also advised that no individual should be pressured or coerced into marriage, stressing the importance of personal readiness and spiritual preparedness.
