SpaceX, the pioneering aerospace company founded by tech billionaire Elon Musk, is reportedly preparing to launch an initial public offering (IPO) in June that could raise an unprecedented $75 billion, a development that would mark the largest public listing in history. According to a report by tech news outlet The Information, the company plans to file its IPO prospectus with security regulators this week or next, signalling the long-anticipated move into public markets.

Valued at $1.25 trillion in early February following its merger with Musk’s artificial intelligence venture xAI, SpaceX has drawn intense investor interest due to its ambitious space exploration projects, including the development of spacecraft capable of reaching Mars. Analysts had previously expected a raise between $30 billion and $50 billion, reflecting the soaring demand for technology stocks, but the projected figure now far exceeds earlier estimates.
If successful, the IPO would surpass the record held by Saudi Aramco, which raised $25.6 billion in 2019, and cement SpaceX’s status as one of the most valuable companies globally. The company dominates the space launch market with its reusable rockets, and its growth has been fuelled by a combination of commercial contracts, satellite services, and government partnerships.
Akahi News gathered that taking SpaceX public will likely require greater transparency from Musk and his team, particularly regarding revenue reporting and profitability. Analysts warn that while investor enthusiasm is high, the company will face heightened pressure to deliver consistent financial performance once publicly listed.
SpaceX is jointly owned by Musk alongside a network of investment funds and technology companies, including Alphabet, the parent company of Google. Experts suggest that public listing could accelerate Musk’s extraterrestrial ambitions, providing the capital necessary to advance spacecraft development and Mars exploration initiatives.
Industry observers noted that the IPO comes at a time when investor appetite for high-growth technology firms remains strong, and successful execution could set a new benchmark for public offerings worldwide.
