Tears as Body of Late Yala LG Chairman, Hon. Chief Gabe Sunday Ugor, Arrives Alifokpa for Lying-in-State

There was an outpouring of grief in Alifokpa as the body of the late Chairman of Yala Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Gabe Sunday Ugor, arrived his hometown, Alifokpa, Cross River State, for lying-in-state, Akahi News reports.

Residents, traditional leaders, party supporters, women groups, youths, and well-wishers lined the streets amid tears and emotional scenes as the remains of the late council boss were brought into the community. Many mourners openly wept, describing his death as a painful loss to Yala LGA and Cross River State at large.

According to Akahi News gathered at the scene, the atmosphere in Alifokpa was sombre as songs of sorrow filled the air, while family members struggled to contain their grief. The late chairman’s body was received with traditional rites before being taken to his family compound for the lying-in-state ceremony.

Community elders and political associates described Hon. Ugor as a selfless leader who prioritised grassroots development, peace, and unity during his tenure as Yala LGA chairman.

Tributes Pour In

Speaking during the brief reception, some local government officials and party leaders reportedly praised the late chairman’s commitment to public service, noting that his leadership style earned him respect across political and social divides.

Women and youth groups also paid tribute, recalling his support for community empowerment, education, and infrastructural development in Yala.

Final Rites Ahead

Akahi News learnt that a series of burial activities have been lined up to honour the late Hon. Chief Gabe Sunday Ugor, with dignitaries from within and outside Cross River State expected to attend the final burial ceremony.

As preparations continue, residents of Alifokpa and the entire Yala LGA remain united in mourning, praying for the repose of his soul and strength for the bereaved family.
