Tears Flow as Ten Victims of Herdsmen Attack in Otobi Akpa Laid to Rest.
In a somber ceremony marked by deep grief and anguish, the remains of ten victims of the recent herdsmen attack on Otobi Akpa community, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, were laid to rest on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

The mass burial, held at Methodist Primary School, Otobi Akpa, drew hundreds of mourners who gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased, whose lives were tragically cut short during the brutal attack on April 15, 2025. The incident, which was earlier reported by Akahi Update, has left the community shattered and mourning.
Addressing the bereaved families at the burial ceremony, the Chairman of Otukpo LGA, Hon. Maxwell Ogiri, described the day as “the saddest in the history of the community.” He lamented the incessant attacks on rural dwellers and called for urgent and decisive action to curb the escalating violence.
“The pain we feel today is indescribable,” Ogiri stated. “Otobi Akpa has been thrown into darkness by the loss of innocent lives. This is a wake-up call for all relevant authorities to prioritize the security of our rural communities.”
Amidst tears, wails, and prayers, the coffins bearing the victims were lowered into the ground, each representing a personal tragedy and a collective wound for a community that has long lived under the shadow of insecurity.
The massacre at Otobi Akpa once again highlights the deepening crisis of farmer-herder clashes in Benue State and across Nigeria, raising urgent questions about the effectiveness of existing security measures and the political will to end the bloodshed.
