Traders Decry ‘Unfair’ Charges

Speaking to journalists, several traders alleged that the recent increments had made it nearly impossible for them to continue doing business profitably.

“How can we survive when rents and fees keep going up every year? We are still struggling with the economy, yet they want to suffocate us with endless charges,” one aggrieved trader told Akahi News.

Others accused market agents of exploiting traders through arbitrary levies, warning that businesses could shut down if authorities failed to intervene.

Security Officials Step In

Akahi News gathered that security personnel were deployed to the scene to maintain order as protesters blocked sections of the market. While the situation was tense, there were no immediate reports of violence or arrests.

Broader Economic Concerns

Analysts note that the protest reflects growing frustrations among small-scale business owners struggling with Nigeria’s harsh economic realities. Rising inflation, high operating costs, and dwindling consumer spending power have already left many traders on edge.
