Tinubu Allies Allegedly Back Peter Obi in ADC Amid Opposition Realignment
Activist lawyer and public commentator, Deji Adeyanju, has alleged that key supporters of President Bola Tinubu are covertly promoting former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as the flagbearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Akahi News gathered that Adeyanju’s claims focus on prominent Tinubu allies, including Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who he says are subtly advocating Obi’s candidacy within the ADC.
Coordinated Support for Obi
Adeyanju made the assertion while responding to Fayose’s recent comment describing Obi as the “only viable figure” in the ADC, claiming that other aspirants were “semi-existing” and that opposition figures Atiku Abubakar and Aminu Tambuwal had weakened the PDP.

“Peter Obi is the only life in ADC. Other lives there are semi-existing. Atiku and Tambuwal destroyed PDP,” Fayose had stated.
Adeyanju questioned the motive behind what he described as coordinated promotion of Obi by Tinubu’s loyalists. “Why are all major Tinubu supporters promoting Peter Obi, their man Friday? From Keyamo to Fayose, etc; they want the coalition to present Obi,” he wrote.
Fear of a Northern Candidate
He suggested that the ruling party’s allies appear uneasy at the prospect of a northern candidate emerging from the opposition coalition, particularly former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom Adeyanju described as a “serial contester.”
“Why does it look like they are afraid of a northern candidate, especially the serial contester Atiku? Their fear is too obvious,” Adeyanju added.
Implications for Opposition Politics
The claims have reignited discussions within Nigeria’s political space about opposition realignments, coalition dynamics, and strategies for presenting a formidable challenger to the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027. Analysts note that such manoeuvres, if true, could reshape the political calculus, particularly in terms of regional balance and voter mobilisation.
Political observers have called for clarity from the figures involved, urging transparency in coalition-building efforts to ensure that electoral choices reflect genuine public support rather than strategic manipulations.
As the 2027 elections approach, Akahi News gathered that speculation over possible presidential candidates, internal party strategies, and regional alliances is likely to intensify, shaping narratives and voter expectations across the country.
