Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Joint Task Force North West, have intensified coordinated offensives across the Joint Operations Area, recording notable operational successes between 21 and 22 January 2026 in sustained efforts to degrade terrorist networks and restore security in the region.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi, the troops demonstrated high-level responsiveness and operational synergy, neutralising a terrorist, recovering arms, and dismantling a critical support facility used by criminal elements.
Terrorists Engaged in Gundumi, Arms Recovered
Akahi News gathered that troops of 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, working in collaboration with Department of State Services (DSS) assets, engaged suspected terrorists during a fighting patrol in Gundumi Village, Isa Local Government Area.
During the encounter, one terrorist was neutralised, while several others reportedly fled into nearby forested areas with gunshot wounds. The operation also led to the recovery of six AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles believed to have been used by the fleeing insurgents for mobility and logistics.
Security observers noted that such recoveries significantly weaken the operational capacity of terrorist groups by cutting off access to weapons and rapid transportation, both critical to sustaining attacks and evading security forces.
Terrorists’ Medical Facility Destroyed in Bingi Forest
In a related development, troops of 1 Brigade, alongside the Headquarters JTF OPFY Mobile Strike Team, swiftly acted on credible intelligence that injured terrorists were receiving medical treatment in Bingi Forest.
The troops reportedly discovered and destroyed a makeshift medical facility believed to have served as a treatment centre for wounded fighters.
