Hon. Grace Unah Congratulates Newly Inaugurated APC State Chairman Chris Sunny Etta, Others in Cross River

Hon. Grace Unah has congratulated the newly inaugurated State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, describing the emergence of the new leadership as a reflection of unity and democratic maturity within the party.

In a message made available to Akahi News, Hon. Unah extended warm felicitations to the new State Chairman, Rt Hon Chris Sunny Etta, the Deputy Chairman, Barrister Ogana Lukpata, and the Women Leader for Cross River North, Princess Otanya Odey.

The congratulatory message came shortly after the successful inauguration of the party’s state executives, a development that party stakeholders believe will strengthen the APC’s political structure and grassroots engagement across the state.

Celebrating a New Phase of Party Leadership

According to the statement, Hon. Unah described the congress that produced the new leadership as seamless and consensus-driven, noting that such a process demonstrates the institutional strength and internal cohesion of the party in Cross River State.

She noted that the emergence of Rt Hon Chris Sunny Etta as Chairman and Barrister Ogana Lukpata as Deputy Chairman reflects the confidence party members have in their capacity to lead and consolidate the party’s progress.

Akahi News gathered that the inauguration of the new executives has generated renewed optimism among party supporters who believe the leadership team will focus on unity, mobilisation, and effective coordination of party activities across the state.

Hon. Unah emphasised that strong party leadership is essential for sustaining democratic ideals and ensuring that political structures remain responsive to the aspirations of the people.

But beyond political celebration, deeper questions emerge: What truly defines effective political leadership in a democratic society? Is leadership merely about occupying positions, or about building bridges among diverse interests and guiding a collective vision?

Commendation for Governor Bassey Otu’s Leadership

In her message, Hon. Unah also commended the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, for what she described as steadfast leadership and consistent contributions to the growth of the party in the state.

She noted that the governor’s commitment to unity and political stability has played a crucial role in strengthening the APC’s internal processes and ensuring that the congress was conducted peacefully.

Observers say that the role of political leadership in shaping party structures cannot be underestimated. When leaders promote consensus and dialogue, it often creates an environment where political actors can work together toward shared goals.

Yet, another question remains: Can political unity truly thrive without mutual respect, inclusiveness, and genuine service to the people?

Renewed Hope for Grassroots Mobilisation

Hon. Unah expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated executives will deepen unity within the party while energising grassroots mobilisation across Cross River State.

She stressed that strong grassroots engagement remains vital to the long-term growth and sustainability of any political party, especially in a democratic environment where public trust must be constantly earned.

According to her, the new leadership has a responsibility not only to maintain internal harmony but also to strengthen the connection between the party and the people it seeks to serve.

Akahi News learnt that party supporters in various parts of the state have expressed optimism that the new leadership will prioritise inclusiveness and constructive engagement with stakeholders at all levels.

But as the new executives assume office, broader reflections arise: How can political parties truly remain connected to the everyday realities of citizens? What mechanisms ensure that party structures do not drift away from the people they represent?

A Call for Progressive and Inclusive Governance

Hon. Unah concluded her message by expressing hope that the newly inaugurated leadership will work collectively to advance a progressive and inclusive vision for Cross River State.

She stressed that unity within the party must translate into development-oriented governance and policies that improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

Political analysts often argue that the real test of party leadership begins after the celebrations end. It lies in the ability to sustain cooperation, manage differing interests, and translate political organisation into tangible benefits for society.

In the end, leadership in politics may not only be about power or positions. It may also be about responsibility, service, and the courage to pursue the common good.

As Cross River’s APC leadership embarks on this new chapter, the expectations of party members and citizens alike remain high. Whether these expectations will be fulfilled may depend largely on how unity, vision, and accountability shape the decisions of those now entrusted with leadership.
