University Refutes Harassment Allegations, Labels Former Nun’s Claims as “Content Creation”

The controversy surrounding Veritas University Abuja and its former staff, Rev. Sr. Anastasia Kinse, has taken a dramatic turn following the institution’s official denial of her sexual harassment allegations.

According to Ben Agande, the university’s Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications, the claims made by the dismissed Catholic nun are “baseless” and appear to be motivated by her new online career as a content creator rather than factual grievances. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Agande stressed that the university conducted a formal investigation but found no evidence supporting the accusations.

“She was invited and asked to provide the evidence she said she had, but she never provided any,” Agande explained, adding that “her recent narratives are part of content creation, which isn’t always guided by facts.”

Former Nun’s Allegations and Emotional Account

In a separate interview with Arise TV’s Prime Time, Rev. Sr. Kinse had alleged that she faced repeated sexual advances from priests while working under the Auchi Catholic Diocese in Edo State. She claimed that one priest invited her to stay with him at his parish, while another allegedly put his belt around her waist under the guise of taking her measurement.

According to Kinse, her refusal to cooperate led to strained relations with Church authorities and eventual dismissal. She also said the psychological toll of these incidents was misinterpreted by the Church as “madness.”

She further revealed that she possessed video and audio evidence of the alleged harassment by a university official but insisted she would not release them publicly for now.

“It’s not as if the evidences do not exist, they do,” she said. “But I cannot put them out there.”

Veritas University’s Position and Investigation Outcome

Akahi News gathered that following Kinse’s resignation on July 2, Veritas University set up a four-member committee, including a medical doctor and a female member, to probe the matter. The committee reportedly reached out to the former nun to present her evidence, but she failed to do so.

The university maintains that the claims are “unsubstantiated and damaging” and that her current public outbursts are attempts to “gain sympathy and online traction.”

Observers noted that Veritas University, being a Catholic institution, faces a delicate challenge in managing such allegations without damaging both its moral standing and the Church’s broader image.

Public Reaction and Broader Implications

The case has sparked debate among Nigerians, with many on social media divided over the credibility of both parties. While some sympathise with Kinse’s plight, others question her refusal to publicly provide proof of the allegations.

Analysts believe the controversy raises important questions about how religious and educational institutions handle internal sexual misconduct allegations, especially when they involve clergy or senior officials.

Akahi News also observed that the case could reignite conversations around the protection of whistleblowers within faith-based organisations and the psychological effects of alleged victimisation in religious spaces.

While Veritas University insists that justice was done and transparency upheld, Rev. Sr. Kinse’s emotional narrative continues to draw public attention. The situation underscores the complex intersection between faith, accountability, and social media influence in modern Nigeria.

As the matter unfolds, Nigerians await whether the alleged evidence will ever be made public or if this controversy will fade into another unresolved episode of institutional dispute.
