The Osun State Government’s telecommunications infrastructure consultant, Rotimi George Taylor, has called on the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to take action against MTN for failing to pay over N900 million in outstanding dues to the state government. Taylor, Chairman of Global Transactions Limited, made this demand during a press conference in Osogbo, emphasizing that MTN should prioritize fulfilling its constitutional obligations before making donations, such as the recent N1 billion contribution to the Nigerian Government’s Food Support Programme and 4,600 digital devices for schools. The state government seeks NCC intervention to address this significant debt and ensure MTN meets its financial commitments.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a 7.69% decrease in the performance of candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). This year’s results show that 72.12% of candidates obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, compared to 79.81% in 2023. Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of Nigerian National Office, disclosed this in Lagos while releasing the results for school candidates. WAEC has pledged to investigate the cause of the decline in performance.
